I always found it interesting how people get money back for having a child. I have had co-workers that get back up too $8,000-$10,000 for having two kids. I just never understood the theory on this

I was reading theories that said since we as parents pay more for having a child with food, clothing etc...etc that we should get a break. We never at any point said to ourselves "Let’s get pregnant so we get money back during tax time." I think the people looking for the tax credit are the ones that shouldn't be having kids. Instead of giving them a credit why don't we build better schools for the kids that are here?

This year was the first year I got something back since being married and having children. It was a very small ammount though.
Pro-Tip: You should never want money back, you should always want to break even.

You think school facilities are the reason kids are failing?
  • I have 2 children and only get $1000 tax credit on each of them. They cost me much more than I receive annually from the government. $24,000 for private school, $2000 to feed them, $1000 to clothe them, $1000 for healthcare and dental co-pays, $1000 for piano lessons, $1000 for drum lessons, $500 for new drums, $1000 for used piano, $3000 to take them to disney world (when I wanted to go to PJ20), the list could go on and on but when I see them smile and say thank you, it is priceless...It is why my wife and I both work and pay our taxes. We couldn't have any of this were it not for our government. That our children will know how truly blessed we are to live here. They too will have opportunities to experience be satisfied by the duties and responsibilities of a citizen that those who don't pay taxes will never have.

No I think that falls on the parents more than anything. So about schools for the parents?

any break we can get from the IRS/government is great with me, once your kid turns 17 that tax credit is history.

How about a break if you’re a millionaire? Oh wait they do get one already. I can maybe see some kind of break but you should not make money and or depend on it.

i have no problem with people with kids getting a break.

i do have problems with people getting more money back than they put in.

i have a bigger issue with the clash for clunker program and the new home buyer credit that was going on. talk about a pile of bs.

But let's keep raising taxes on the few people that are actually paying the, right?

unfortunately if they are dead set on raising taxes they have to, they are the only people they can raise them on...you can't squeeze blood from a turnip
