Do you think they'll have any songs relating to the crap that's going on in Washington DC these days?

  • I like Green Disease and I like WWS but I dunno if I'm such a big fan of obviously political lyrics. I'd much rather have the unstable Ed from No Code on the next album. I have to admit that his fucking beard and all this bob dylan-shit doesn't do it for me so I really hope he gets his shit together...

I think Ed and the boys save most of they're opinions for live shows when he speaks to the crowd. Sure lots of songs are about current events, but I think a song about America's financial shape would suck. Prove me wrong, guys.

Yeah...let's hope they channel Bret Michaels and Vince Neil for the next one.

All kidding aside though...my guess would be yes...of course they'll get political...at least half of the Ed penned ones.

Are you on drugs? They've always been at least aware... maybe not as obviously political as they are now, but situations change. Some of their earliest live stuff outside of MTV and Lollapalooza included benefit concerts for abortion rights back when ppl. were killing abortion doctors, etc.

Even their first SNL appearance got political -- with ed throwing in some murmurs about "a woman's right to choose" into a song break.

maybe......he has his shit together, (hence the no longer having unstable lyircs) and you dont have your shit together, and thats why you dont dig it. cause you dont relate to someone who does have thier shit together.

    idk.

    just saying.

Too bad you can't "hear" sarcasm on a message board. :)

And I think Ed quite has his shit together...

  • I think they need to suspend recording the new album in light of the financial crisis.

It's a good thing for me I had Trent Reznor the last 10 years :).

Man, I really hope not. Save that commentary for the shows & interviews. I'm much more into Ed's lyrics on life in general.

The last album was way too influenced by the war and his lyrics didn't leave a whole lot to interpretation. They were pretty straightforward. And, they really didn't connect with me emotionally. That being said, it was still a decent album, so don't take this as a complete knock from me.

His take on Chris McCandless was much more interesting & introspective to me.

This is how I feel. I enjoy Avocado for the most part, but I really enjoy the interpretation part of music. If the new album contained more subtle allusions to current events, I'd like it a lot better than a song that just lays it out in plain-speak -- I know that; I live here, too!

I'm sure the future administration & current social issues will def be part of any new PJ we hear, since these things will be a factor in their lives, just as they will in ours.

But will they be happy songs or angry songs..... time will tell.

Maybe, I don't know... I just need him to shave that fucking bear, put up with the folk-rock shit and put some ideals back in his music. Just saying...

I second this. Let's have some song about girls and how sexy they are. Something explicitly sexual would be cool. Screw mistique for just one song....gimme some sex songs.

how about something along the lines of the early angst and crying out in pain. That plaintive wail

  • I really hope they avoid making songs that get stuck in a particular date and time to such an extent that Bushleaguer will. I don't mind political Pearl Jam one bit. I just enjoy it when it is much more timeless/universal points being made than a song like Bushleaguer.
  • I hope that Ed writes about what he is feeling and thinking...just as he always has...and I will buy it and love it...just as I always have. I hope he never takes into account how people will feel about his political views or any views for that matter. This would really compromise his art.

If I knew where it was I would take you there. There's much more than this
  • I'm hoping the album won't be as depressing as the last three. We know we are going through bad times, do we need to be reminded through music or can we listen to temporarily escape reality?
