Kissing protest in Chile

More than 2,000 university students took part in a massive kissing protest in Santiago as part of continued demonstrations over education standards and costs. The arousing scene was in stark contrast to violent clashes seen over the past several weeks featuring students throwing bottles, and police firing tear gas and water cannons to disperse them. The kissing protesters said their lip smacking was just a part of a larger effort to fundamentally change the education system to include greater accessibility for later generations. "That is why we are fighting. So younger generations can have a better education," sociology student, Luis Santa said. In recent weeks, student groups have become increasing creative with their massive rallies as they draw attention to their demands and call the government to work directly with them. "I think that within the current scene the country has seen us demonstrate in all kinds of ways and I think this is one of the most amusing ways for everyone else," said dentistry student, Ignacio Marchant. Chile has been ensnared by a number of educational protests across the country ranging from striking universities to high school students occupying their school buildings.
