The Beastie Boys have lended their music to XGames and Winter XGames commercials. "Remote Control", "Too Many Rappers" and "So What'cha Want" have all been used. Sabotage has been used in U.S. Open commercials. And I'm positive I've heard them in some other commercials, but I'm blanking on what they could be.
"See a broad to get dat booty yak 'em, leg 'er down, a smack 'em yak 'em!"
all of you missed the whole point behind these hypocrisies I was attempting to point out, and instead tried to throw it all back in my face with "some of the same" totally ignoring what I was trying to say. there is nothing wrong with supporting a cause one has faith in. There is a moral line crossed when for twenty years you stand for something just, fair, and argumentatively so, and then one day decide none of it matters. When the masses of supporters begin to waiver on their faith because the mission of the group has changed, an explanation is deserved.
20 years yo, 20 years...
beastie never put anti-commercialism 1st, PJ did, ... "DID"...
water_boy, how is it hypocrisy if you use a quote from another band to talk about this band? You're holding Pearl Jam accountable for a Beastie Boys lyric. If you have a quote from one of the members of Pearl Jam saying "we'll never let our music be used in a commercial", then that would show hypocrisy, and who knows, one might exist.
Even if Pearl Jam did say they would never do such things, I don't hold it against them any more than I do Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend for not dying before they got old.
I haven't really enjoyed some of the recent moves Pearl Jam has made, such as the deal with Target and what not. But it's their career and not mine. The world is a changing place, and Pearl Jam are changing people. Nobody is the same person in their 40's that they were in their 20's. I'm pretty sure everybody in the band have families now, and who am I to get all sanctimonious about whether or not they make money when I'm not the one who is going to be paying for their college and braces or whatever?
I don't think they've compromised their morals. Some recent moves would have been unthinkable in the early 90's, but so was the idea of me wearing a suit to work, or having a Sam's Club card. If Pearl Jam turned around and endorsed some Right Wing candidate, or released a line of Pearl Jam Brand all-beef hot dogs, then I'd be concerned. But being in a few commercials and being more visible then they were in their reclusive days isn't the end of the world. To me at least.

(grumble, grumble, grumble) okay then, Im sure the forum monitors watch me like a hawk, watch this. Why not add a link to share our posts on saveface, twitfest, or the others ...? Wheres the new line? The new lovey-dovey music is nice and all, but there's still shit going on that requires attention. All this being said I would like to take this opportunity to apologize to the band for feeling so strong about these things, during what is supposed to be a time of celebration, that I must write in these ways about them.

I might stick around or I might be a fad, but I won't sell my songs for no tv ad.
