    yes...

Good grief! That's a mortgage payment and a half!

Those in support of going back to Clinton era taxes have to either be

    1) In school
    2) Supported by someone else / have dual incomes
    3) Really committed to social programs
    4) A hardcore Democrat w/ horse blinders on

As a single guy who clips coupons and is constantly looking for ways to save and reduce costs, this would hurt big-time.

Are people reading the chart incorrectly? Or is your mortgage $400?

Either I'm reading it wrong but I can't find a single option where it's only $200 increase. Even the lowest income on their table is a $400 increase.

I'm seeing a $600 increase, so I just changed my post to $400 (my bad).

Ok. Anyway, I think the difference correlates to a rent or mortgage payment for each salary range.

    $30K - $400
    $50K - $660
    $75K - $1400

If you make 30 grand a year, $35/mo is going to hurt "big time"? Come on!

I pay too much in taxes as it stands. When the hell does it stop? I work for that money. They steal enough as it stands.

400 a year is a lot of money for someone making 30,000. Sounds like a large number when your in college. But you don't actually get the 30,000 grand...there are a lot more taken out than simply federal income taxes.

Especially since you would not only be telling that person that $400 extra a year is now coming out of their check, but about $200 of that money will be used make sure that we continue to be able to police the world militarily...wonder who would support those tax hikes if that is what they told people...

people are so willing to spend someone else's money and call for tax increases yet, rarely, do they ever simply just let the government keep their tax return...wonder why that is...There are huge debt problems and we need to fundamentally change the way our federal government does business... i wonder when things fall apart, how will quickly will our country fall into chaos...
but go ahead America, vote for Romney or President Obama...because so much matters this time around, and these are the guys who will change it  please cradle my head when that happens because I will definitely be fainting from the shock...

What if that rich person got rich through hard work?
Why should he pay more tax?

as a general rule, and there are some exceptions, but it is impossible to get rich working for someone else.

most of the rich built businesses, hit lottery or struck oil on their property. a lot of times it is just luck. i mean the guy who invented the pet rock became a millionaire...

    Obviously not.
Did they go to university and study hard enough so that they don't end up in some dead end minimum wage job? Nah didn't think so.
Too many jealous people out there, the rich people got to where they are though study and hard work.

It also took a tremendous amount of risk to build those successful businesses. I'm sure the one thing that kept them going was INCENTIVE - something Obama hates vehemently.

In this job market? Yeah. A lot of them did. Not like it matters. My gardeners, my house cleaner... they work long hours, they work VERY hard and they do a great job. Yes, I pay them well and when I found out my trainer didn't have health insurance, I gave him a raise and paid for it myself. But I'm not very "typical" when it comes to employers. Most work their workers to the bone and pay them as little as they can get away with.

    Nah didn't think so.
Too many jealous people out there, the rich people got to where they are though study and hard work.

Oh, wouldn't it be nice if that was the case? Things so simple like that? hard-working people get rich and lazy people stay poor like they deserve? People who work their whole lives are rewarded with lots of cash and those people who sit around and do nothing just... get nothing?

LOTS of people were born into their billions. Lots of people luck into their millions. Some people work their whole lives to achieve a goal and for a plethora of reasons.... it doesn't work out for them.

    And... "jealous?"

You can't be talking about me... I'm one of the people who'd pay MORE if the Bush tax cuts were allowed to expire. And I'm actually OK with that. I find myself baffled by the people who are barely getting by that are loudly defending my taxes when I'm doing just fine. And giving me a tax cut because I "Create jobs?" Don't be silly... I'd employ the same number of people either way. People who are a LOT richer than me have shown that with lower taxes, they don't create more jobs... they just stockpile their money.

It's the people with lower income who spend all their money because they HAVE to. You really want to "create jobs?" Tax me higher and tax the poorer people less.... they'll have more money and they'll spend it. And THAT... my friend.... creates jobs.

so because obama supports entitlement programs he hates incentive?? :?

why do people with your politics automatically believe that obama "hates" things that can not be proven if he believes in them either way??

that is like saying "obama hasn't let the bush tax cuts expire because he hates the concept of poverty." it does not make any sense. those kinds of ideological statements will never be known.

His economic policies CLEARLY speak for themselves. I don't see how putting our nation in the position of defaulting on financial obligations FOR THE FIRST TIME IN HISTORY is good for business or the people at large.

He does not hate the concept of poverty. Trust me, I will never accuse him of that - you can bet.

pardon me my friend, but it it the gop who is not compromising on the debt ceiling. could it be that this is the first time that congress has attached a debt ceiling debate onto a budget debate? because yeah, it is the first time in our history the two have been lumped together.

obama has put the entitlement programs on the table like the gop demanded, and the gop will not buckle on the tax issue. they have to meet halfway, but they are unwilling to do that. they said they "have sacrificed too much" by even entering negotiations...

Well... a job is what you get paid to do.

And since the GOP have proven that they're bought and paid for by banks and huge corporations, they kinda ARE doing what they were paid to do... which is fuck over the country so long as it puts the white house back in control of Republicans.

No, I think Boehner understands you can't end a debt crisis by piling on more debt.

Entitlements need rolled back, simple as that.

I find it funny that Obama and other dems voted against it in 2006 but are all for it today, and republicans who were dead set for raising it are against it today...barely 5 years later...fucking joke...shouldn't need anymore proof than that they these people would argue for the killing of their own mother if the other side was against it...

It's almost pathetic that you keep saying that when no... it's NOT simple and it's not "that" at all.

Boehner doesn't "understand" anything other than "if I want to keep my job with free health care and all these perks, I need to do what the billionaires who fund my campaign want me to do which is lower taxes on the people who need it the least, pour the burden on the people who need it the most and cut everything by giving it a cushy-sounding name like 'poor person rewards' or 'entitlements' so the gullible will stand up and cheer for me as I kick the chair out from under them."

Don't you have like a breast cancer clinic to close down in the name of stopping abortions (that aren't performed there)? I mean.. where are you priorities? You stop that innocent cancer tumor from being killed while Boehner takes away your grandmother's health care coverage like a good peasant.
