Pearl Jam at the Philly Spectrum!

OK - we need to make this happen! Rumor is that they are planning on tearing the Spectrum down soon! It would be so great if Pearl Jam made one last stop here before it becomes a memory.

On the 2005 tour at the Wachovia, Ed said at the beginning of one of his songs, "It isn't the Spectrum, but it feels alright...".

The Spectrum is a great place for a concert. (Those that have been there know what I'm talking about.) Saw the Foo Fighters there in Feb & the sound in the place is awesome! Yeah, it's old & smaller than most places, but the history (especially to those in Philly & South Jersey(near Philly & considered a second home)) makes it a must stop for the tour.

I am starting a "petition" if you will, for Pearl Jam to play at the Spectrum. (Maybe a special 10c event? so the true fans can get tickets.)

***Maybe the 10c could distribute tickets in the order of signatures (user names) on this thread. Hey - I GET FRONT ROW! (a girl can dream!!!)

Hope to see lots of names on the list!

To those who are going to the shows this summer - have a great time, maybe I'll see you there!

Oh please, plenty of other cities and old buildings to visit... 2 nights in Philly is enough.

I agree - they should play the Spectrum again if they get another chance to, but I don't think the plans have been finalized to tear it down yet.

I know the committee Comcast hired recommended tearing it down, but no plans for its demolition have been announced.

    thanks for the thread link...

I'm kinda new to the messageboard - didn't see that one before, but another one in support of the cause can't hurt...

Hope they don't tear it down, but would like to see PJ there anyway...

No worries. I was just linking you to it so you can see that your cause has a ton of support. Personally out of all the PJ shows I've seen, the best crowd was at the Spectrum and would love to see them there again.

No final plans for any construction in that area yet. And even if the Spectrum is demolished, it will be the final phase of construction, so about 2 years away. There's still time for plenty of shows :D

I was at the Spectrum show on the '03 tour and I must say that is probably the best PJ show I've seen out of the dozen or so I've been to. When Ed first address the crowd, there was literally five minutes of cheering before he could speak again. Philly brings in the best crowds.

Unfortunately, never got a chance to see them at the spectrum - caught them in Camden that year. (not the same) Would love the opportunity!

I went to my first concert ever in the Spectrum (Ozzy in '85, I think), and saw many shows since there... never Pearl Jam, unfortunately, but there's just something about the Spectrum. It would be awesome if PJ played there one last time...

... of course, they'd have to put down the crack (Camden) first.
I smile, but who am I kidding...

(Maybe a special 10c event? so the true fans can get tickets.)

    I highly resent that statement.

i can't help but chime in every time there's mention of the spectrum. and i always say the same thing: 2003 show was the best crowd i've ever been a part of.

i saw the cure there on saturday and it reminded me how awesome that venue is. i don't understand why pj hasn't been back there.

I only meant that it would be nice if the tickets could somehow be kept out of the hands of the scalpers & available to the people who really would like to see them. (I just became a 10c member last year & have been a longtime fan & pj concert attendee)... so, no harm meant, it just sucks being a fan to be shut out of tickets for a show through 10c/ticketmaster & them see them on ebay for a gazillion dollars.....

I agree - I have been to about 40 Pearl Jam shows and not one beats the Spectrum...the crowd was amazing, the band was having a blast and you could just feel the energy from the start....I have always hoped they would play it again..it is an awesome place to see a show...esp. Pearl Jam....

Well...here's my two cents of positivity:

If there's still that much time before they actually demolish, that means next year's full-blown PJ tour in support of the album we hope is out next Spring will bring them back through Philly in time.
I fully expect a 3-night stay at the Spectrum in 2009!

the spectrum is all for bringing back the bands that helped create its legacy, i think that pearl jam definitely qualifies for that and hopefully will have another stay there before its all done

The president of Comcast Spectacor, Peter Luuko, was just on the local Philadelphia sports channel discussing the last year of the Spectrum (2008-2009). To paraphrase, he said he is trying to line-up some special events to put a cap on the Spectrum's final year. He made mention to events with the Flyers and Sixers he had waiting in the wings. Then he was asked about a "wish list" of concerts to end the building's run. Luuko named Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, and Pearl Jam as some of the acts who hold a special affinity for the building.

Granted, this was an ideal wish list from Luuko, so we'll just have to wait and see. Its good to hear though that the people at Comcast Spectacor are aware of Pearl Jam and the Spectrum's legacy.

To see Pearl Jam would be an excellent send off for the Spectrum. What a fantastic place to see a show.!! A ten club show would tear the roof off!! I saw Eric Clapton and Black Sabbath there, great great shows. It would have been wonderful to see the guys there the last time around!
