Mr. Lovedog
I was transferring some of my old cassettes to MP3 and came across a song called Mr. Lovedog, this is from Faster Pussycat's 3rd Album Whipped. The song is about Andy Wood and makes references to how Andy and possibly other Pearl Jam members (Stone/Jeff I'm assuming) didn't like Taime Downe (lead singer of Faster Pussycat and co-owner of the Cathouse in LA with former headbangers ball host Rikki Rachtman).
Does anyone know the backstory on this? I know the time period of Mother Love Bone's 1st debut was in the height of hair metal. It is referenced on Wood's wikipedia page but the lyrics, below, suggest a one way admiration. The song is really good considering it came from the same band that wrote Bathroom Wall. Any info would be appreciated
Lyrics: I left the evergreen combat zone, for a taste of a better life for me - The star dog left the mother bone, for a jewel he'd never find or see - You may have hated me, I don't know - But I loved the way you played your role - You couldn't stop to kick the jive, it left your kin with salty eyes - Hey Mr. Lovedog, You Will Always Be - The one back home that could have had it all - Hey Mr. LoveDog, you never really knew me, god bless your velvet gifted soul - Makes no sense at all - Now you're the holy roller, with the hub cap diamond star halo - This is goodbye to captain Hi-top - Hope your Pearl Jam can keep it strong - They may have hated me, I don't know - ........
