I was at the 2nd night in Chicago and Eddie's energy in Chicago was evident, comparitively it sort of felt like he was going through the motions in MN. I know Chicago is a special place for him so maybe I was expecting too much from the MN show but he seemed labored in MN, not like Chicago, completely different vibe from him between the two nights. I also thought the flow of songs in Chicago was alot better. MN show was harder to get into. In ChiTown he'd build to an epic climax then would punctuate it with another epic song. The way he built up from Just Breathe, to Unthought Known to Porch in the first set of the 2nd night in Chicago was just unbelieveable, then in the first encore the way he built on "Let My love Open the Door" to "Rockin in a free world" just left everyone in a frenzy. Comparitively in MN he got people started up a little with Unthought Known but then brought them right back down with "The End" and then left the stage. Then in the encore the crowd was so amped for Porch and was primed for one more great one to send off the 2nd encore but were not rewarded for their support. I also thought there were a hadnfull of dbags in the audience in MN that we did not experience in ChiTown (the Sean Penn critic wasn't the only annoying audience member in MN).

I unfortunately have to agree with this. Sometimes it's hard to manage expectations at these shows, EV obviously has the Chicago ties but after not playing MN in 5 years and having such a great start for Hansard, I was expecting a bit more. LBC was awesome, and he did way more PJ stuff than he has in the last solo tours.

Like I said in my review, maybe it was the back to back nights in different cities. But something was just a little... off.

Still, an average EV show is better than the majority of other concerts so can't complain. Excited for PJ20!

Agreed that an average Eddie show is still better than just about any other show out there. Also, I drove 4.5 to Minneaplois to see the show nd did not regret it one bit. So like I said, please take everything in context that I did not hate it and I still thought it was a good show with SOME great surprises. I was just commenting that I thought if I had to compare since iI was at both that night 2 in Chicago was a better show that just left me absoultely adrenalized and wowed, where MN was a good show I was happy to be part of. Hope that makes sense. Hearing that he played an amazing show the night before in St. Louis and the fact he was at the end of the 'meat grinder" part of his tour makes it understandable that maybe he wouldn't be at his absolute best, I am sure he was probably exhausted and gave us all he had despite that. I guess the evening started out with us being a tiny bit disappointed as we had 10C tix and we have alot of seniority (17 year members) but our tickets were in the balcony and not on the floor, but for balcony tix they were good, 4th row center of teh balcony so we could see everything great but they weren't the first ten rows of the floor like we are used to. I will also say that Eddie is handlign this tour alot better than teh ITW solo tour in so many ways. Embracing playing PJ songs and covers to accompany his Uke and ITW solo stuff has made these shows way better than the ITW solo tour IMHO.

Wondering what awaits us in Alpine for Labor Day weekend. So looking forward to those shows and I think we will be in for a few surprises that weekend too from what I am hearing. othing official yet but could be some great stuff so you won;t want to miss a bit of it!! PJ20 cannot wait!

    Love Boat Captain???????wowwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!!!!!

Yeah, I really don't like Love Boat Captain, but the version he played at this show was amazing. It makes me wish that this was the version that was on the album. It was a little bit different in parts and those differences really made the song good in my opinion.

I guess it didn't dawn on me until much after the fact but...

I was excited to see the pump organ onstage when the curtain came up, but Ed never got to it. Change in setlist maybe? Saw Uncle Neil play a few songs on one at his solo show and was hoping Ed was gonna do the same.

Pump Organ is on stage every show, it's part of the set. The "guy in the white coat" also brought out a couple of guitars throughout the night that Eddie never used. That is the one thing I was sort of sad abotu too, never got to see him use the pump organ in either show this time around, I have heard it's pretty great though

Let's see. I was at St. Louis & Minneapolis, so it was a jam-packed couple of days with a lot of road travelled. Minneapolis... the second time seeing Glen and once again very impressed. Eddie struggled quite a bit tonight... lyrical flubs and playing flubs, especially on the uke. "Off He Goes" was solid. As many people have stated, "Love Boat Captain" was definitely a highlight. Ed and Glen on "Falling Slowly" is pretty amazing. "Long Road" is one of my favorites and Ed performed it well.

I give St. Lou the nod over Minneapolis. I give Ed a lot of credit though. When I think of the catalogue of songs (PJ, solo stuff, covers) that he has to stay sharp on, it's not surprising that he has a few flubs. Glen, although great, is doing a similar set of 8 or 9 songs every single night... it's no wonder these are super-tight performances. Eddie, seemingly out of nowhere, decided to play "Love Boat Captain" and pulled off a pretty impressive, slightly alternate version.

This was my first time seeing Eddie live (still haven't even managed to catch Pearl Jam unfortunately :( ). Just wondering has Eddie ever released bootlegs of his solo shows? It'd be a nice way to document my first showing. I really enjoyed the show a lot, Arc was awesome to experience live. I also really enjoyed the opener Glen Hansard and wound up buying an album from him at the show.
