My 14-year old daughter wants to accompany Ed on cello in SD

It's her first show, though she's long been a fan of PJ and especially ITW. It's going to be a magical experience for both of us regardless, but I found her comment on this intriguing! She loves the uke songs but noticed Longing to Belong was not being played at Ed's shows unless there was a string quartet present for the evening, and then he borrowed the cello player for LTB. I doubt there will be a string quartet in San Diego (Philly didn't have one last night) and Ed seems like the type of guy who just might do something like this. It's a complete long shot but we're taking her bright yellow cello case with us to San Diego and will have it when he leaves his bus in the afternoon for the theater. Stephanie has been playing cello for 8-years now, and says the part in LTB is pretty easy to play. Hey, you never know. She gets to enjoy the "what-if" factor leading up to the show, which is really cool! What a great Father-Daughter experience this will be attending Ed's show with someone so close, and who truly "gets it"! Can't wait!!!

Just a thought that this puts Ed in a position to have to be the bad guy if he says no.

Just remember. If you happen to pull this off it doesnt count as playing with Pearl Jam. I just wanted to make sure we were all clear on this. ;)
Sorry. The world doesn't work the way you tell it to.

Ed will never be the bad guy in our eyes. He's done some amazing things for a lot of people! By no means are we expecting this to happen... Stephanie just wants to be in position for the light to shine on her if its meant to be. How could she be disappointed if it doesn't work out? A few hours later she gets to see her first concert - with Eddie Vedder! Remember how cool it was the first time you saw a show and you knew the words to all the songs? That's what she's gonna get - in an intimate and elegant setting. The evening should be nothing short of fantastic!

And yes, she knows this is Eddie Vedder, not Pearl Jam! 8-)

Cool post, and one that i can relate to somewhat.

I was at the Detroit show last nite, Fox theater. Almost took my son for his first show, but he's only 7 and i just wasn't up to having him in the middle of the crowd. However, for me, i had this tiny hope in the back of my head. Didn't happen of course, but it went like this.

My mom is a professional musician, violin/viola/etc. She had played the Fox a week ago, with Deep Purple, and i had this tiny hope after seeing the strings at the NY shows that she would get hired to play Ed's show. At which point maybe i would get a backstage pass, and maybe a hello to Ed. My mom also played a show with Cat Power couple years back, so that would have helped the cause maybe!

like i said, obviously didn't happen. But i can relate to the OP's big wishes....cheers to them....

sure ... why not!?? ... especially if this is coming from your daughter and not you ... she seems to realize it's a long shot so, at worse it doesn't happen and she sees eddie live ...

i would add tho that if i was her ... i would practice another lick like alive or something to tag onto the song just in case she does get the call ... hahaha ...

Oh, that would be so wonderful for everyone.

Good luck and just like you are ... think positive!
Teaching your daughter this is the very best you can do for her.

You are a great Dad! :D
    Have fun!
