photography is against policy, with a lot of "cameras are forbidden" posters in the lobby. In Providence I saw some pretty zealous ushers telling people to stop shooting. The "authorities" were catching and releasing however, not kicking people out.
I've never seen 1800 phone screens rise up at the same time in a theater setting like the EV experience has been on this tour, but if I did, I'd imagine it would be pretty unsettling. :!:
unless you're totally stealth about it, and can cover that digital screen up, or use a small descreet film camera and no flash, you're going to get yelled at. If you're going to take a photo, for the love of all that is holy, turn your FLASH OFF. If you don't know how to do that, read the manual.
I would be more in favor of a no PHONE policy. Between the omnipresent glowing screens, and effing texting...I'm all for staying in touch, but release yourself from the grip of the grid and spend some time with Ed.
I can only speak to the Prov show, there was no searching of bags that I saw.
I actually am a photographer. I'm definately not anti photography. HOWEVER, I am anti arms length or arms above your head, 4 inch screen, right in front of me all frickin' night, phone photography/videography. Especially when there are signs saying not to use cameras...but even without the signs, or at a show where there's no policy, it's abrasive. Everybody's got a phone and everyone of those phones has a digital camera.
Take a photo sure, get your memory, but spare me and everyone around you the 3 hour rock photojournalist act with your Blackberry.
Pardon me for bein' such a dick, but you're out in public and people can see you...
Hey, I've been to a few shows at the tower. The ushers the usually are annoying as hell getting people to stop using cameras so much that they walk in front and yell during the set. I've also seen where they don't care. I would say try taking a few pictures but if they come around stop cause they will try to take your camera.
We will have our camera on us because we will be visiting the city and taking pics at the pre party but i doubt i will even try to take a pic unless i get a golden opp. I am able to turn the brightness down on my camera screen to almost nothing and it can take great pics without the flash. If i get lucky or brave or even a combo of both i will share with everyone.
They won't take your camera if you have it in your bag, they'll just ask that you don't use it. Providence (to me anyway) seemed to be the worst for over zealous ushers. I went to Boston and Hartford and they seemed more chill about it.

If you get any good pics send few over.
The ushers wouldn't have to be annoying if people taking pictures weren't annoying. Why do we need a picture of Ed anyway at the show? Do people actually look at them later on? Don't we know what he looks like by now?

They are doing their jobs. Signs say no cameras. What are we five year olds that can't follow instructions?

Guess you don't own a camera since u would never look at the pictures.

No, my point was why do you need a picture of Eddie on stage? I can understand looking at family pictures later on, but who actually sits down and pulls out old pictures of Eddie at shows? Do people actually do this? Or are the pictures put on facebook so you can all show your friends where you were at?
The cell phones at Beacon II were brutal. The ushers were constantly shining their flashlights down the aisles at folks who couldn't shut them off for 3 friggin' hours.
My personal opinion? In an intimate theatre setting that lacks the sonic power of arena sound setups folks really need to just enjoy the show and not worry about the homemade souvenirs.
They did not take the cameras away but they will tell you at the door not to use them. If you take the chance and an usher calls you out, please please please put it away and don't try again. It's incredibly disruptive to the show.
I managed to get a few good ones at Beacon 2; I was in the last row in loge so no one behind me. I turned it on in my bag (the screen light is really bright), pulled it out, snapped a quick one and then in it went back into my bag. No one came over. But another girl was taking pics repeatedly and an usher pulled her aside and they had a conversation that must have lasted 5-6 minutes RIGHT BEHIND MY SEAT. That was a lot of fun

I think there are plenty of reasons why fans would want a picture of Eddie...
From my perspective:
I couldn't ever see myself being lucky enough to get second row EV tickets again, so it was an opportunity to potentially get a reasonable photo of Eddie. I was also doing a photography course at the time, so I was keen to at least try out some of what was being taught without using a flash (they didn't turn out). There were loads of people taking photos and videos during the show with cameras and their iphones, but the security were watching for this pretty closely. Even before the support act came on a person near me just took a photo of the empty stage and they were told not to even do that.
The only time I used the flash was in the last song and at the end of the concert when most of the audience were openly taking photos and videos directly in front of the security, so it was at a point in the show when I hopefully didn't annoy anybody. When I was told not to by a security guy I put my camera away and I didn't take anymore.
Would I try it again? Probably not...instead I would try and see if it was possible to see Eddie before the show outside the venue to potentially get a better quality photo.

I guess I am just wondering why you need a photo of Eddie on the street? Paparazzi behavior.
Yea dont use a camera. They will hassle you and possibly take it. Beacon night one they were like hawks looking and messing with ppl all night. My suggestion would be to save it for the memory bank

Very funny...I meant if there were a group of fans waiting before a show to meet Eddie that I would probably join them to try and get a photo that way. I'm not a stalker or member of the paparazzi, I'm just a fan and I also happen to enjoy taking photos.

I respect what Eddie is trying to do here. And it's true that people recording with their cell phones can be annoying.
But the security guards yelling and shining lights in people's faces was a big distraction as well.
