Tired of seeing the "liberal" or "conservative" labels being spread around like peanut butter here.

These labels are usually used in lieu of talking about the merits of the ideas you're trying to communicate. If the ideas are so fragile that insults or labels are a better way to make an impression, you need new ideas. Politcal bias grows like an absess around people's forebrains eliminating any possibility of rational and objective thought processes.

Once we stop identifying with these labels and stop compartmentalizing others using these labels, I think we can start a serious dialogue in the US (and here on the AMT). It also allows us to not see everyone else as either "good" or "bad" depending on our self-granted label.

just an idea :D

I agree, he still stands. Firstly because, personally, I'm not big on labels anyway but secondly, because they are tossed around like so much confetti. The older I get the more conservative in someways and the more radical in others I become and the labels break down further. On the otherhand, I support someone like Prince of Dorkness proclaiming himself as a liberal warrior because he knows who he is and has strong convictions and, it should be noticed, his label here is a self-proclamation.

Oh, I'm a very proud angry liberal warrior and I don't care who knows it.

    ANGER is a liberal prerequisite.

Think about it.... have you ever met a happy Liberal? They're always upset about something. They're always hating someone, while preaching peace and compassion.

They even hate their own... look how they're treating Obama right now:

This couldn't be further from the truth, and what a way to knock the OP's idea in this thread.

Labels are a crappy way to address anyone.

Labels are necessary so we Constitutionalists can keep track of who is destroying this country.

we seem to be on separate teams when we use these labels... wouldn't it make more sense for us all to be on the same team and talk about strategies/game plans like adults?

As it is, we seem to be trying to figure things out and trying to make ourselves happy by standing on each other's shoulders and kicking everyone else's teeth in.

It's because everyone is too preoccupied with their own egos. Drop the ego preoccupation and all of sudden problems would get solved.

    Us and Them
And after all we're only ordinary men
    Me, and you
God only knows it's not what we would choose to do
Forward he cried from the rear
    and the front rank died
And the General sat, as the lines on the map
    moved from side to side
    Black and Blue
And who knows which is which and who is who
    Up and Down
And in the end it's only round and round and round
Haven't you heard it's a battle of words
    the poster bearer cried
Listen son, said the man with the gun
    There's room for you inside
    Down and Out
It can't be helped but there's a lot of it about
    With, without
And who'll deny that's what the fightings all about
Get out of the way, it's a busy day
And I've got things on my mind
For want of the price of tea and a slice
    The old man died

    I agree.

labels are necessary so you can split and compartmentalize others into little boxes so you can store them away and never think about it again in detail, and more importantly, to protect the ego from the bewilderment of the all-encompassing mystery of everything and everyone.

You should hear it with music behind it. It's even better. It's lyrics from one of the greatest bands ever, off of one of the greatest and best-selling albums of all time. Strong hint: the song title is the first line.
