I remember racing out of my freshmen year community college class straight to the store, and on the way, I heard In Hiding on the radio. :D

Yes, this was my first PJ album... It's when I found them and things would never be the same... I can't believe it's been 10 years now.

  • I got a copy of the album on my birthday a few months later. I had a tape of it from a friend to hold me over until i got it.

I do remember josh "horrell?" being interviewed on 1057 the point in st. louis. He was the kid that leaked the album. Yield was the first commercial album that was leaked ahead of its' release date via the interweb. I also remeber the radio station hiding tickets for the tour around the city behind yield signs. I had my mom drive me around the city trying to find tickets. I ended up getting tickets for the show later.

    you're talking about josh wardell.

yes his website back when he was in college i believe at syracuse....was the one that hosted the yield mp3's. i do remember uploading given to fly and do the evolution for him as they had leaked on Krock in NYC Thanksgiving day 1997. I had converted those to mp3's from my tape, and emailed them to him.

Shortly thereafter, Krock had played the first 4 tracks of the album and I had those uploaded to josh. Shortly thereafter, there was a promo cassette from Japan that had leaked and radio mp3's were soon taken down as the promo cassette was "better quality" hehe.

    The good ol' days.

There's a few of us left that contributed to that site.

I worked the day it came out. Luckily, I was working where they sold music so it was "Yield" all day.

Having got an amazing live preview of Yield by attending all four of the Oakland '97 shows opening for the Stones I was waiting quite impatiently to see what other gems would be on this masterpiece. Great album! Amazing tour!!!

Junior year in college living with about 4 or 5 Pearl Jam freaks like me. Doing a lot of drinking and smoking listening to PJ. Great memories, I miss those days.

I can remember about 15-20 of us packed into a room at the end of the year when they played Wishlist on Letterman. We wore Yield out, it was great.

Yeah, I took a lot of those 'botany field trips' too. :)

  • It was my first junior year of college. I woke up in the morning, was about to go to my classes, but then I remembered that Yield was being released that day. So I went to Best Buy, and I waited for them to open (my first class was at 11:30 that day - I had time). I went in, bought my cassette and CD copies of Yield and got a free Given to Fly 7". I hopped in the car, headed toward the freeway, and before the first chorus of Brain of J, I was on my way back home because listening to Yield all day was better than going to school.

Then proceeding to drive around and smoke most of the day (was sunny & warm if I remember)...followed by after dark we pulled over and stole a Yield sign...I remember thinking we were music-fan pioneers...ah, the memories! Its still my favorite album, tho!!
I met my wife here...you can too! Don't lose hope!

I was a freshman in high school I believe and I couldn't wait to get out of school and go to the closest record store and buy it. I remember listening to it nonstop for about a week after I bought it.

I was probably listening to my copy of the "Given to Fly" single.

Yield was the first PJ album I bought as a new release (I came on in 96/97), so I was hugely excited. I was sick the week the album was released and missed a few days of school (9th grade). My mom was nice enough to go out and buy the CD for me the day it was released while I rested at home. I remember my dad walking in my room while "Do the Evolution" was playing and saying something along the line of "I hope that isn't supposed to be the best song on the album." In 2006 after he saw PJ with me for the second time he admitted that DtE is a lot of fun live even if he never liked the song.
  • I remember the day like it was yesterday. I had jury duty that day but it didn't start until the noon. I went to a local record store and purchased 3 copies. A cd for home, a vinyl for the collection and a cassette for my car, which at the time was an 85 Civic. I always bought 2 copies of each album because I was too cheap to buy a cd player. Looking back I could have had the best cd player in the world with all the cash I wasted on cassettes.
