the valley

the wolf

‪the blades of grass‬
‪cut her ankles to the bone‬
the twisted vines‬
wrapping themselves‬
around her waist‬

‪‬
without sound‬
‪she prayed to God‬
asking only for justice‬
deep driving blues‬
mixing with waves of green‬

‪‬
the wounds soaked the earth‬
‪blood meal for beauty rising‬
the lone flower in the valley‬
so defiant‬
so lovely

the flood water crept into the valley‬
the flower never had a chance‬
I fell to my knees‬
placed my head in my hands‬
and wept
