Blitzen Trapper will continue their one new release a year pace on September 13th when they release their latest LP, American Goldwing, via Sub Pop Records. The follow-up to 2010′s Destroyer of the Void and their 2009 standout Black River Killer EP, the record is billed by Sub Pop as “a freewheeling collection that balances the roughness of rock ‘n’ roll with fateful heartfelt loss.”
“It’s me trying to evoke a true American nostalgia” explained lead singer and songwriter Eric Earley in an issued statement. “My vision and focus while writing our new album was on the inescapable past. It’s about those feelings of being trapped in a small town. That fine line between the rural and the suburban settings that define much of America, that line between love and loss that occurs when you find yourself taking it too easy and sticking around a lonesome town for far too long.”
Earley also added that the album was influenced by the sounds of the band memebers’ youth:
“The hard guitar rock and country picking of our younger years mixed with glimmers of our usual space-aging technology and pawn shop Casios. Heavy guitar riffs and blasting drum fills live side-by-side with plucking banjos, wailing harmonicas, and muddy slide guitars.” For an early, albeit small taste, check out the promo video posted below.
Ahead of the release, Blitzen Trapper will spend much of the summer on the road. So far, shows have been scheduled in the United States Midwest and Pacific Northwest in July. Even more dates will be announced in the weeks ahead, and you can find the band’s complete tour schedule below.
