DO THE EVOLUTION - a 20th Anniversary Tribute Celebration
of PEARL JAM - WORLD CAFE LIVE PHILLY JUNE 19th 7pm
Ed used to play through a Hiwatt, I believe a Lead 50, prior to the Fenders. It was a half-stack, a head over one 4x12 cab, usually with the bat wings. I know for sure that he used that amp for the Yield and Binaural tours, but I think he'd switched to Fender by Riot Act tour.
Only one of them is mic'd though(the fender blues deluxe on the right). Does he run direct outs from the other 2.

Okay, no. First, that's Ed's solo tour, not a PJ tour.
Second, the Twin in the middle is, indeed, mic'ed. There is a Z-bar with a microphone that you can see on the bottom edge of the Twin, just below his left leg in that photo. The mic itself is covered in that photo by Ed's leg.
Third, the Deluxe amps are NOT Blues Deluxe or Hot Rod Deluxe amps, but rather Fender Deluxe amps from the late 1950's (or, as mentioned above, reissues thereof) with the 5E3 circuit. Similarly, the Twin is not a Twin Reverb or anything like that, but rather the late-50's design with the 5E8 circuit (again, not sure if it's vintage or reissue; Fender has reissued both the Deluxe and Twin amps from 1957 designs as the '57 reissues: http://www.fender.com/products/index.ph ... amplifiers )
Fourth, I'm not aware of Pearl Jam or its members ever using a direct output on a guitar amplifier. They always mic electric guitar amps. They have been taking direct signals from acoustic instruments (ac. guitars, ukes), from Jeff's two bass rigs (electric and upright), and from the keyboards. But direct signals from guitar amps tend to be very dry and sterile; very good for things like speed metal, where intelligibility is key, but terrible for most everything else. Also, I know that they mic Jeff's electric bass rig, and they almost certainly mic the Leslie cab hooked to Boom's Hammond organ. They probably blend those signals with the direct lines, or use one in the house and one in the monitors, or something like that.
Not sure, in that photo, what the unit is underneath the bat wings; could just be a stage prop, could be an amp of some sort, could be an effects unit like an echo... but the amps in that photo are the Fender Twin and two Deluxes (Twin in middle, Deluxe on either side) that he's been using with PJ for the last couple tours.

Now lets talk about Stone and Mike.
They've been getting in to some BAD ASS amps recently.
holy bat wings, buttman!
If I opened it now would you not understand?
The amp in the back was definitely in use. The tech was in and out turning knobs on it a few times.
