I heard this brought up in a discussion and was wondering what people think about the idea...

Elimination of anything but the name on a ballot. No r or d or incumbent...just the name of the people running...do you think this would help, hurt, or allow things to remain the same?

Personally i love the idea...

I think it's a great idea... and obviously take away the straight ticket vote option. What a stupid idea that is...

that would sure throw a twist to the people that just run down the list to vote all dem or repub, it might force union people to do their own homework before they vote rather than vote for who the unions want in office..
    I like the idea !!!

hard to say ... in principal - i am for it but i think it has to start at the campaigning level ... otherwise people will vote based on name recognition and you'll have a lot of people entering as george washington or michael jackson ... ;)

I love it. All people care about is the letter next to someone's name. Why would people want to think for themselves? Celebrities are dancing on TV!! There's another sale at the mall!! Can you imagine if a Democrat was in office from 2001-2009 and did everything exactly the same as "W" did? He/she would have been destroyed. The same could be said for the present.

Removing the "D" or "R" would force people to think and make up their own minds. What a novel idea!! Sadly though, critical thinking is a lost art these days.

what do you mean start at the campaigning level?

I think there would be far less party line voting and that is all I would be after in this change. Not putting down who the incumbent is makes people either simply ignore the column or actually have to support what the incumbent does. If you don't know who he is it might clue people in on the fact they need to learn about it...either way I don't think it could be worse than what we have now with people voting without knowledge...

meaning ... people would campaign without letters next to their name ... just taking them off at the ballot box may not be enough ...

To be fair, I don't think it's a union problem, more of a 'people are lazy and will vote for party x cause they always have'.
