I would have preferred Public Enemy over Lou Reed, but we will see what happens.

A little more info on the album:

    http://www.loureedmetallica.com/
The musical collaboration between Lou Reed and Metallica, "Lulu," is coming your way this Fall and this space will be your spot for all things Loutallica(!). We want to start sharing with you just how the "Lulu" project, recorded at HQ just a few short months ago, is coming together. As you can see this site is a work in progress and the plan is to build it before your very eyes. Please bear with us while we piece it all together!

"Lulu" was inspired by German expressionist writer Frank Wededkind's plays "Earth Spirit" and "Pandora's Box," which tell a story of a young abused dancer's life and relationships and are now collectively known as the "Lulu Plays." Since their publication in the early 1900's, the plays have been the inspiration for a silent film ("Pandora's Box," 1929), an opera, and countless other creative endeavors. Originally the lyrics and musical landscape were sketched out by Lou for a theatrical production in Berlin, but after coming together with the 'Tallica boys for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame concerts in New York in 2009 all guilty parties knew they wanted to make more music together. Lou was inspired enough by that performance to recently ask the band to join him in taking his theatrical "Lulu" piece to the next level and so starting in early May of this year we were all camped out recording at HQ studios in Northern California, bringing us to today and ten complete songs.

We can't wait to share this music and the whole experience with you. Please visit us often... we'll be posting updates on a frequent basis.

I was fortunate enough to be at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame concerts, and thought the pairing worked incredibly well. They did White Light, White Heat and Sweet Jane, and both were, in my opinion, amazing. I'm very excited to hear this.

  • i still wonder about lou's comment on metal music from the 70's

"One of the peripheral effects typically distorted was what was to be known as heavy metal rock. In Reality it was of course diffuse, obtuse, weak, boring and ultimately an embarrassment."

wonder if he felt the same way a few years later when metallica came out, with that whole 80's thrash.

    The first single is terrible.

First single is a crock of shit, it sounds exactly like i expected it to, two different songs melded together.

I'll give the album a listen though, just out of curiousity.

Agree with both of you. I've listened to the full thing and it's actually worse than St. Anger. No fault of Metallica's it should be noted (the music isn't actually too bad on a few of the tracks) but Lou Reed's sorry excuse for "singing"/rambling is shambolic.

I guess the best way to assure people don't steal your music is to make stuff that isn't pleasant?

I'm not hearing the "collaboration" element. It sounds like Metallica doing their thing and Reed doing his thing with no connection between the two artists. And Lou seems more interested in preforming out-of-touch beat poetry than song writing.

The album works best with Junior Dad, it's at it worst with The View

Lou....ditch Metallica...Keep hanging out with Albarn

I enjoy it quite much actually. Weirdly enough, Lou's awkward 'singing'/reciting of the words seem to complement the music most of the time. I don't really dig Hetfield's vocals though.

I am a HUGE Metallica fan, and am in the MetClub, but there is not a chance in hell I will be buy this album. It sounds like those strange watermarks record labels put over songs to prevent piracy, but its Lou Reed rambling.
