Alpine Valley parking situation...

So my wife and I are flying into town on Friday afternoon and will be renting a car since we're about 30 miles away from the venue. I was wondering if someone whose been to Alpine Valley could fill me in on what I could expect as far as the parking situation goes? Is the access in & out of the venue fairly smooth or an absolute nightmare and what are the typical parking fee's I can expect to pay?

Trying to decide whether I just drive to the venue myself and pay the parking fee as $80 for 2 round trip tickets each day seems a little over the top if you ask me. But if getting in and out of the venue each night will be a major hassle then maybe that money will be well worth it. Any insight would be appreciated.

Parking is included in the price of the ticket. I think the only time I have had any trouble getting into Alpine was for Buffett, and the line kept moving, it was just slow. Getting out can be a challenge, you are likely going to sit there for at least 45 minutes to an hour. If it rains, the lot turns into a giant mud pit, and it can take HOURS to get out. I am staying at a local campground (8 miles), and I am still paying to take a shuttle to and from the venue.

    Have fun!

The line coming in shouldn't be too bad. I think the rush coming in will be spread out a bit with a festival situation. When there is only one act everyone is trying to get into the venue in a smaller time frame. Now trying to get out will be a different story.

What makes you think the shuttle won't take forever to get you to your hotel? They have to drive the same roads. Might as well save the money. You can also get premium parking if it is still available for $60 total. At most venues this gets you out much faster, and is closer to the venue. But no one can seem to confirm if it is worth it at Apline. I've not seen one fan post anything good or bad about it online, and the venue will not reply to my request. So I figured it was worth the gamble and got it.

I've never parked in the VIP lot before, but I do know that the closer to the venue you park, the longer you will wait to get out of the lot. Although, there is another exit close to the VIP lot, so maybe that's the perk of the VIP.

It's still a clusterf*ck in VIP. The exit you speak of goes through the GREEN lot, which is about half a mile from the entrance of the venue and only used for near sold out shows. They only open that as an exit if nobody parks in the green lot (nobody parked there during phish last year). Otherwise its the same one way in, one way out as the rest of the folks, except VIP has lots of people cutting them off as they make their way to the exit.

Is the green lot exit also an entrance from Town Line Rd. or do they only allow entrance off of Hwy D

I went ahead and purchased the VIP parking passes as $60 + a tank of gas for two days of parking probably will be more cost effective then taking a shuttle to and from the event. Plus I figured with so many people taking the shuttles, it will probably be a cluster fuck trying to get on one after the show.

It's always a good idea to have your own car.
Thinking about VIP parking myself. 60 bucks is our two posters though and money is tight.
Still plenty of time to make up my mind.
Thank you fellow 10 clubber for saving my ass....again!!!

This event will be near sold out. If you come to the green lot entrace from Town Line Road that is the way to go. In my experience it is a much easier exit than the clusterfuck on the other side. Will take you half an hour instead of 2.

What time does the parking lot open?

I wish they had a "shakedown street" where everyone could sell their art and such, like at some shows I have been to.. :?:

Only allows entrance off Hwy D, I believe. If I remember correctly Town Line Road entrance (With that shed and giant ALPINE VALLEY sign) is reserved for people who need to be backstage, or are staying at the AV resort.

Green lot is usually slightly better for exiting, but it still takes a long time. last time I parked in green I waited 45 minutes to even start my car and it took only 15 minutes to get out 8-).

FYI You do NOT have a choice on whether you park in the massive red/blue/yellow lot or the secondary Green Lot. They open up the Green later the red/blue/yellow is near full or the line is backed up for miles.

Usually around 3 hours before showtime. Last year for Jimmy Buffet you could pay $20 to get in at NOON, and this was for an evening show. Check with the venue when we get closer :) for what time lots open.

Yeah leaving the lot is close to unbearable. It will literally take hours. By far it's the worst thing about alpine. It puts me in a bad mood cause all u want to do at the end of the night is go home.

I'm planning on driving home after the Sunday show, it looks like it will turn into a few hours longer with the wait to get out of the lot. Hopefully the high of the show will carry us through :D

VIP enters the same way everyone else does and parks up front, but it has a separate exit from the venue. It is definitely worth the $30 per day. I made the mistake last year of only getting VIP parking for 1 DMB alpine show last year, I will NEVER do that again... VIP is the way to go IMO

Was the GREEN lot open for dmb? When green is not used, that half mile roadway to the green lot becomes a second exit. Otherwise as I recall, vip goes out the same way as everyone else.

The way I see it, if it is that difficult to get out of the venue each night....then just chill, break out some snacks, sit in some lawn chairs, and just listen to your stereo as you stare up at the stars for an hour or so. :D

The Green lot WAS open (has been every show I've ever attended and parked in VIP/Premier). the exit from VIP takes you thru the road that people walk towards the Green Lot. If you leave the venue early, you can get out IMMEDIATELY. Otherwise, you must wait about 30 minutes after the show for the walkway/road to clear of fans walking, THEN you get to exit this way.

It says online that the Country Inn is about 3 miles away, anyone know if it's walkable, meaning a pretty straight shot that's not on an expressway (obviously cos you aren't allowed to walk there..)?

    This!

Never been to AV before, but the lots in Camden/Philly are terrible letting out after shows. We NEVER just hop in the car and go. Chill out for an hour then it's smooth sailing. :)

I was thinking the same thing as I am staying there as well. But a couple of locals have told me that it WILL NOT be an easy walk...country roads, no streetlights/sidewalks. I am still considering it...but it'd be nice if the Country Inn organized a shuttle or if people staying there w/o the travel package can get on the travel package shuttle for a price.

eh, I walk 3 miles every night thru rocky terrain and un-lit areas..no biggie..
Maybe we can get together, get a couple others to join us, and all walk it in a group..at least it'd be safer..I got a pack of 8 flashlights I can bring LoL
