iPod

This isn't a PJ specific question. But with the number of multiple disk shows it becomes an issue. When loading multiple disks into my iPod it renames the albums with Disk 1 & 2, etc instead of stringing them together as one show. This is especially annoying in the car when I have to physcially select disk 2. The only way around this issue I can come up with is to create a "playlist" in with all of the songs from one show in a list. Anyone have a way around this on "Import"?

Here is how I do it...

Before I import the CD, I right click on the song and chose the "Get info" option. Then I go into "Options" and click "Part of a gapless CD" on every track.

Then I import disk 1 into iTunes.

Insert the 2nd disk and do the same thing, then import it.

After both disks are imported, I go into the Music section of iTunes and, again, right click on the "Get info" option, then go into the "Info" section and re-number all the tracks....for example, if there are 10 songs on disk 1 and 10 songs on disk 2, I change the count to "1 of 20" and change the disk to "1 of 1" and continue until all the songs are now "x of 20" and are all labeled as Disk 1 of 1.

It is a bit of a pain, but it is the only good way I have found.

  • This is a bit of a painful fix, and can't be done automatically on import, but I think it's better than the playlist approach:

I just rename all the tracks (using track info) to being tracks 1 - xx, where xx is the total number of tracks for the whole show. Also erase the 'disc 1 of 2' info in each of the tracks. Also, take any info out of the album title that refers to discs 1 or 2 or none of this will work properly.

It's a bit annoying, but then you have one picture for album art (if you choose - I'm a fan of using the jpeg of the show poster if available) and when you start playing, it just plays the whole show through (with a fade out/in where the discs are usually switched).

Anyway, that's as good a solution as I've found.

I’m in the process of doing that now to all my sets. It’s a bitch.

  • there's a MUCH easier way to do it in iTunes...

    * import both discs
    * select all tracks from the first disc and Get Info
    * remove any "Disc 1" text from the album title
    * under Disc Number, set it to 1 of 2 and click OK
    * select all tracks from the second disc and Get Info
    * remove any "Disc 2" text from the album title, so it has the same name as disc 1
    * under Disc Number, set it to 2 of 2 and click OK

iTunes and your iPod should now display it as one long album. If you check the track numbers, you'll see (for example) tracks 1-25 of 25, followed by tracks 1-27 of 27. But, since you set the disc numbers, it'll show them as one album when you browse. No need to manually renumber anything!

I knew there had to be an easier way. My problem was I was renaming them before the Get Info and it was renaming everything from the internet.

Pretty much how I do it...

Then the only painful part is importing the image of the poster for the show as the album artwork... That, I believe, still has to be applied one song at a time...?

thats the way I've been doing it, and its pretty easy, the hard part for me is renaming the songs when I download one of the bootlegs from the downloads thread. iTunes doesnt like importing song titles in that sense. happened to anyone else here?

No, you can do it the same way, with all songs selected, click get info, then just click the "Artwork" field, it should be a blank white box, find the pic, and click apply. It'll add it to all songs from that CD.
