Some background on Girls Rock! Ri, the Providence fundraiser beneficiary:

ABOUT Girls Rock! Rhode Island (GRR!)
    >>MISSION
The mission of Girls Rock! Rhode Island is to help girls and women empower themselves through the development of musical skills in order to foster self-esteem, self-confidence, and self-efficacy. Through this work we hope to build an environment conducive to the active participation and respect of women as creative producers of our culture. We envision a future where women and girls are prolific, independent creators of all aspects of modern culture.
    >>GIRLS ROCK CAMP
The first Girls Rock Camp(s) was held in Rhode Island in July of 2010. Girls Rock Camp is an intensive one-week day camp offered to girls ages 11-18, where campers of all skill levels have the opportunity to learn guitar, bass, drums, vocals, or other instruments. Campers will also form a band, write an original song, and perform at the final Showcase for friends, family, and fans!
In addition to all this, campers will have the opportunity to meet other girls, female musicians and mentors, and participate in enrichment activities that may include screen-printing, self-defense, body image/self-esteem, media literacy, concert/show promotion, songwriting, and women in rock history. GRR! welcomes campers that identify as female, trans, and gender-nonconforming.
    >>LADIES ROCK CAMP
With the firm belief that it’s never too late to rock, Ladies Rock Camp is held twice per year. In three short days, women 18 and up can learn guitar, bass, drums, vocals, as well as form bands, write original songs, and perform at a Showcase. All skill levels are welcome. Ladies will have the opportunity to mix and mingle with other Lady Campers and professional female musicians, as well as learn about rad topics like concert/show promotion, screen-printing, women in rock history, and self-defense. The proceeds from Ladies Rock Camp help to support Girls Rock Camp! You can find more information about Ladies Rock Camp here.
    >>GIRLS GET LOUD
Girls Get Loud is GRR!'s after-school program. GGL takes the elements of Girls Rock Camp and spreads them out throughout the school year-- learning instruments, writing songs, and more! Currently, GGL is funded through the Providence After School Alliance and is available to middle school students in Providence only, but we hope that additional funding will allow us to provide GGL to more girls in the future!
    >>LADIES ROCK LAB
Ladies Rock Lab is a big, fun jam session open to ladies 18+ who want to rock out with other awesome women in a positive and supportive environment! LRL happens on the first Friday of every month at JamStage.
