If you had to name the best, what would it be? I guess we should stipulate your top PJ or PJ-related concert and your top non-PJ concert.

For the emotion of it, my favorite PJ concert was Camden 2.
My favorite non-PJ concert was My Morning Jacket in Charlottesville, same criteria.

Have you been to an MSG show? Not being sarcastic here..just question.

Used to think the same thing till I went. What makes them special..and to the band I'm sure...is most, yea not all but most of the folks that spent the change and or made the trek to MSG are PJ fans....I'd say 80% of the fans knew the words and no body sat down...the energy is incredible and to have the floor bounce up and down due to all the fans jumping in rythm...thats pretty freakin cool.

Pearl Jam at Bonnaroo - A M A Z I N G show, just amazing energy, amazing crowd and to be watching a band like Pearl Jam perform to that many people was simply amazing.

Non Pearl Jam related: The Avett Brothers at Bonnaroo. Discovered them about a month before Bonnaroo and haven't stopped listening to them since, they are amazing and I suggest everyone check them out. But their performance at Bonnaroo was crazy awesome, tons of energy, tons of crowd interaction, they just absolutely blew me away at the Roo...can't say enough great things about the band and the performance...

And how is that any different from any other venue when Pearl Jam is playing? Yeah, it's not. You make it seem like MSG is so hard to get to. Like it takes some pilgrimage to get there or something. "Make the trek," please. Making the trek is for all of the Puget Sound fans heading to the Gorge. That my friend is a trek. MSG is right inside the city. MSG is not special. I am sure PJ among other acts create some special moments there, but to propose that it is all because of some basketball arena as the reason is preposterous. Get off your MSG high horse. Pearl Jam has incredible shows all over the globe where more than 80% of the people are hard core fans who do not site down for the entier show and sing every word. You really should get out of NY some time.

I think so. Come down and get some dinner and a few drinks, then go check it out. It's free and pretty cool to see a PJ exhibit at the library. Over 80 posters are up.
  • PJ Related: Tough, either Eddie at Santa Cruz or Roo
Non-PJ: My Morning Jacket, Greek Theatre Berkeley. 3 hours in a foggy bay mist in an epic setting.

Well, having seen PJ 66 times (and counting) from the east coast to the west coast to the south and in other countries....I can say that MSG shows are magical, but that's because there is a vibe that only NYC has (although, Paris has that same kind of never sleeps feeling). The band get a little more ampted up in certain places (as I'm sure you know coming from their home state) and those simply make for better shows. Of course, every show kicks ass when it comes to these guys because they simply are the best in the world....but NYC has always been a special place for them.

I have often thought that one reason is because of such huge fan club ticket sales (fans from all over the country and many from overseas)...the band knows that they are playing for many die hards at these shows and they wanta give it there all. I don't know...but it makes sense.

My favorite Pearl Jam show was Bonnaroo. Ed's Washington, D.C. night two show was The Roo's equal in my eyes. My favorite non-PJ show was when members of Gogol Bordello joined Les Claypool and Kirk Hammett to play a set of Tom Waits songs late on Friday the thirteenth/early 14th wee hours at The Roo. The music flowed out like the refreshing Tennessee rain that night. Absobleepinglutely AMAZING !!
