What's The Most Obsessive/Dumbest/Craziest Thing You've Done For Tickets

Back on Friday April 11th when the msg tix went on sale it was the day of senior prom at my high school. My school has this rule that you have to be there for a full day of school in order to attend prom later that night. So I'm pretty pissed cause I didn't have tix for night one and I had to get them.

I called up my school and said I had a doctors appointment and I couldn't cancel it, which was a complete lie. So they said yea thats pretty much the only way you could miss the school day and then go to prom. I was pretty pumped that i was gunna be able to buy tix and then go to prom but before i could hang up, the secretary said I had to bring a doctors note.

Knowing that there was no way i was gunna get a note, and never before had i needed to do so, i was pretty bummed and i was so annoyed by that dumb rule. I only had to come home from school for like half an hour to get tix and then i would go back. So, in order to get around that rule, I called up my doctor and scheduled a doctor's appointment at 10:45 in order to get tix at 10:00 and then have a note to get back into school.

IMO it was well worth it and i did get three tix for me and my friends and I did go to prom. Anyone have any ticket buying stories from their past?

  • Slept on the piss-stained (and that smell stays in the concrete FOREVER) streets of San Francisco in the "tenderloin district" where transvestite prostitutes are pacing back and forth across the street all night long, right after 2006 night one to get right up front for night 2. Thank God Cosmo was there to feed me some pizza and a couple of others were there to offer blankets. I had no idea that July would be so cold in California.

But what a great experience. I made some great friends and would do it all over again in a heartbeat....as much as I hate the smell of urine.

Edit: So maybe I'm a little drunk and didn't exactly read the entire post from the op...so what? This wasn't exactly for "tickets" but it was for front row right in front of Mike. Good enough, eh?

On the 11th I waited 4 hours outside of my local ticketmaster, missed my finals in school. I made them up, but I can't fuck up my senior year.

waited and slept on the streets in NY for 40 hours for irving plaza tickets. when i finally got them at midnight on monday night i took a cab to port authority. waited until 3 am for a bus to philly. got me there around 5. had to wait around the filthy, creepy philly bus station until 8 for a bus back to wilmington, delaware. then had to take an hour long delaware transit bus back to campus. for some reason i went to my 12:30 class when i got back. i then proceeded to sleep for about 18 hours. no joke.

I did something very dirty in a shady restroom of a rest stop on the Garden State Parkway...and honestly, I don't like to think about it. It was a dark period for me.

All kidding aside, I don't think I've done anything too crazy for tickets.

I waited in line for nearly 48 hours outside of Tower Records to get the free tickets to Irving Plaza! I'd do it again for 48 days if I had to! It was SOOOOOOOOOOO worth it!

Paid $160/ticket for 4 tix on the lawn at Merriweather for the '96 tour. That was my first show.

That was during the "No TicketMaster" tour, and for a 20 y/o die-hard fan it was totally possible that they'd not tour again and I'd never see them. At the time, there were actually rumours that it could be their last tour.

In retrospect, I'd do it again.

slept on the street ( outside tickatek) for every tour exept the first for tickets for sydney 1, and in 06 did it again for newcastle.
met some real nice jammers. I have a good rolloutbed with sleeping bag so Im set.
will do it for the next tour as well
newcastle I had presale tickets but they were up the back, so I camped out and got great floor tickets.

  • 1995....turned down an offer of $1,000, which I'm pretty sure was legit, for two tickets to New Orleans. I was 18, may parents would have killed me if they had known at the time that offer was on the table

well if you were my kid, I'd be so very proud of you! :D

never really done anything crazy for tix thanks to 10c or fellow fans always coming through for me.
craziest thing was deciding to fly to LA last weekend WITHOUT tickets (well, 1 by the time I actually got on the plane.. thanks again Hal :))
  • Six hundred dollars cash handed over on some street corner in brooklyn at two a.m. for a couple of fake borgata tickets. They ended up letting me in though.

Traded a Benaroya Vinyl + a single non-10C ticket for another single 10C ticket to the SF Bill Graham show, and thought it the best trade ever. Stuff is great, but experiences are better :)

When they come around again, I'll probably try trading my Ames Ltd Ed book (along with my 3xxK 10c Tix) for some 1xxK 10c tickets (conditional on my not winning the "lottery," of course).

  • Sat outside Tower Records, which seemed like an eternity. As others have said it was certainly worth it.

I think I started going crazy towards the end though...I kept walking in circles.

Risked expulsion from high school. I've been a Who fan since 8 yrs. old (1967) when my aunt gave me Happy Jack on 45 as a birthday present . In 1976, while on a six week long World Cultures study program in England, my equally Who nuts friend and I went AWOL . We did leave an escape notice. We travelled by train to see The Who. It was one of the The Who Puts The Boot In shows; this one at Parkhead/Celtic Park , Glasgow, on June 5, 1976. When we returned, we were threatened with being sent home ( didn't happen), given In School Suspension for one week during the trip, and were suspended for the first week of our senior year back at home, 1976-77 school year. It was worth it in hindsight, but all the talk about my future circling the drain did have me questioning my decision at the time.

The trip was undertaken without show tix. We managed to get tix at the ground with no headaches.

Isn't too crazy, but in '98 I sold a couple books back to the bookstore far before finals (may have been before midterms) to pay for a ticket. I don't remember how I did in that particular class but I'll never forget my first show.
