i must say it's quite an awesome and epic piece of work ........ but there is one thing that's been bugging me a bit lately... track 2 (the end of the line) is a pretty sweet tune but it's main riff is way too close to that of pearl jam's why go.... am i the only one who's heard this?? listen to it on youtube if you dont have their album yet.

it's the same timing and tune and well - everything... the only difference is there is an extra lick at the end of james'.

im not saying they copied it but im just pointing out something still quite interesting

    wrong forum, big guy. but yeah, sounds kinda close. just like the Animal-type riff in Broken Beat N Bruised or whatever.

    It's been talked about extensively here for weeks. But, I have to say it's similar but not a rip off cause the song changes pace a lot. For the record, Death Magnetic is the best Metallica album since Justice.

    PJ can only hope that their next album is as bad ass as Metallica's after all these years. Hopefully they can all pull together and create the best PJ album EVER!!

    i wouldn't call it a rip off at all. but i still can't believe how good that album is. i got the new KOL, Buckcherry, Jeff Ament and Metallica last weekend. I have listened to the other three a couple of times. Death Magnetic about twenty times.

    i was putting off getting the new metallica, but i think i'm gonna pick it up this weekend. i've heard nothing but good things about it.

    Yeah, it's been a few days. I was referring to End of the Line, although now I can see the Why go comparison pretty well.

    And by "wrong forum" I meant it should be filed under "Place to start new threads that were already covered by 50,000 previous threads" aka "Search Engine"

    Are you the one who commented on youtube that they possibly stole it at Lolla? That is a really stupid theory. The album was written by that point. Do you really think they heard a Pearl Jam song and rushed back to record it? They played different days at the festival so I doubt Metallica was even there while Pearl Jam was.

    Metallica is quite aware of Pearl Jam and have been for many, many years. I have no clue as to how exactly Metallica came to have a chunk of music that is almost identical to Pearl Jam's "Why Go" and I'm sure you're just as clueless. Could it be chance? Sure. Could it be that they went digging into music they liked, including their own, for inspiration and listened to Ten? Sure. Will we ever know what exactly happened? Probably not.

    It's the demo for the song which has the same "Why Go" music present in it. So it's probably safe to say that it was prior to Bonnaroo when this chunk of music was put into their song. ;)

    so i picked up this cd last night. from the way the majority of you were talking, i was expecting a blatant rip-off of the song "why go". christ, i should have known better. i hear the similarity, but that's all it is.

    and i don't hear "animal" at all in the other song. some of you are reaching way too far.

    I hear the 'Why Go' but 'Animal'? Not a chance.

    It's very, VERY doubtful Metallica ripped off Pearl Jam. Very doubtful, i hope no one believes otherwise. Great Album tho I agree their best since Justice.
