I just purchased Ukulele Songs today and was sitting outside listening to it when I noticed how great my neighbors flag looked on their house. I proceeded to go out and get one of my own. Didn't get around to hanging it yet though.

I have a 20 foot one in my office, My old boss thought it was the most beautiful flag in the world, he had a series of ties and they all had the american flag on them.

If you do buy one, spend the extra cash on a good one. You know, the kind where it's fourteen separate pieces of fabric stitched together with embroidered stars.

Me, I alternate between flying my US flag and my Chicago flag -- not all the time, just when I feel one or the other is appropriate.

Get a good flag pole too. They have this kind now that keeps the flag from wrapping around the pole.

    Good info in this link.....

I'm proud to say I've owned one for more than 25 years.

Didn't take some asshole terrorists to make me love the USA.

OP please if you do get one follow the rules of display. I see too many flags being mistreated.

One of the first things we bought when we bought our house. My Dad is a WWII vet, so it always just felt right. We try to put it outon the national holidays, but sometimes forget during the colder months. Foor summer tho it's easy; put it out for Memorial Day and leave it flying thru Labor Day. We don't have lights directly on it, but we do have landscape lights that kinda light it, so I think. Good enough. :D

Actually a flag displayed at night requires uplighting.

The only flag I own looks like this...

    34-33173-J.jpg

I don't own a state or national flag though. I don't have anything against them, just never felt the urge to fly one. Plus there are so many rules for flying Old Glory. There is no penalty for not following the rules, as you can burn it if you so please. I just don't want people giving me shit for not following the "flag code". And while it might not be a problem for most, I have a neighbor who is a Vietnam vet, who follows the code to the T. He's almost exactly like that crazy old neighbor from The Burbs, he raises his every morning and takes it down every night. And I know he would give me grief if I ever left it up in a rain storm, or at night without illumination.

Yeah, I probably wouldn't bother with it either if someone is a freak about it.

if I were to accidently leave the flag up in the rain.

i know it does, thus why i said...good enough.
i know it really isn't, but it makes me feel better. :P
luckily a lot of my neighbors do the same thing, so that's that.
if i didn't leave it out overnight, i'd probably never put it on display, and i do love it in the summertime.

  • We own one... it was flown in Afghanistan when my husband served over there.
We now keep it in one of those triangular display cases on the piano.

We bought our first house from an elderly couple who'd lived there for years and years. When we moved in, they left us instructions to all the appliances, notes on the neighbors (including who was crazy and who was nice) and a big American flag. Even though we've moved, we still use their flag on holidays.
