Heading for the first time this year. I can't wait.

Besides a bunch of the obvious bands that I want to see there, what are some of the smaller, more obscure bands I should check out? Here is a list of a couple of bands I have heard good things about, but haven't listened to:

Electric Hot Tuna
Kung Fu
Nathan Moore
Zach Deputy
Ryan Montbleau Band
Civil Twilight
Carbon Leaf
Lotus

For anyone who has heard some of these bands, which ones should I make sure to see?

HELL YEAH!!! I love Mountain Jam! I'll be there starting Thursday for soundcheck. From your list:

ELECTRIC HOT TUNA!! an absolute must. Zach Deputy is amazing to watch. I haven't seen any of the others, but am looking forward to all of them. Especially Civil Twilight and Lotus. Another smaller band, this may be on your list of must sees, is Dawes. I have been wanting to see them for a few years.

You ever been before? It is so much fun and so chill. 8-) Leavin tomorrow...

    Thanks for the response, man!

No I have never been. I am going with some a couple buddies, two of which have been before. They're getting there Thursday and setting up a good camp site. I, unfortunately, could only take off Friday so I am missing Thursday and heading up bright and early Friday morning. Should be rolling into town by 9 am. Can't wait, it should be such a blast.

f yeah i'm going. i'm heading up on sunday on that mmj circuital bus ride. it was some special they had: $99 for a round trip bus ride that leaves from nyc, sunday ticket, and autographed mmj poster. cannot wait. i think i might just park myself at the main stage for the entire day from civil twilight to edward sharpe to grace potter to my morning jacket. can't wait.

those that have gone before, anything we should know in advance?
Beavis: All my friends are brown and red? What does that mean?
Butthead: It means that his friends are like turds and that they like suck.
Beavis: Heh heh. Oh yeah. Yeah! Get those spoons out of my face before I shove them up your butt!
    Butthead: Huh huh.

Things to know about Mountain Jam:

    1) It fucking rocks. It is super chill and laid back. Keep your eyes peeled because the artists walk around everywhere. I met so many people last year.

    2) The two main stages are set up right next to eachother and go back and forth. during the day it is easy to go back and forth between the two and get up front. As it gets later and the artists get bigger the front fills up. It is very easy to get up close. I was 7 feet from Levon Helm last year. Amazing.

    3) The bathrooms in the ski lodge behind the stage are the best.

    4) Be sure to check out the smaller stages. You never know who is going to show up. I could've made out with Richard Thompson last year. He started jamming on a tiny little stage with about 15 people there watching. Instead of making out I told him he was my dad's hero.

    5) Be sure to climb to the top of the hill and look down. The view is great and it is really fun to watch the tripping hippies play on the jungle gym.

    6) Do not miss Michael Franti and Spearhead or Grace Potter. You want to be close for Grace Potter. Especially if she is wearing a mini dress. You can thank me later.

    7) Bring a water bottle. There are drinking fountains in the lodge where you can fill up.

    8) If the Coca Cola trailer is there it is a good spot to get water and free caffeine. They also have internet hookup and a nice bathroom.

    9) Green is good. and everywhere.

Feel free to PM if you have other questions. See ya there!!

Be front and center for kung fu, most talented band you will see all weekend. Timmy is amazing on guitar, Adrian can play the drums like you wouldn't believe, and just watch stoops play the keys......I can not stress this enough, watch them from close.
  • im not going but definitely don't miss kung fu. stoops brings the funk and tim shreds hard. also lotus is a fun dance party. have fun dude!

I'm a bit biased because I went to college with Ryan but he and his band put on a good show. I've seen them a few times over the last couple of years and they're definitely a talented group.
