Anybody remember standing in line for tickets to a big show?

No server crashes...no bitching about refreshing...the only seniority was when you arrived to start waiting in line.

Sitting in a parking lot making new friends having a few beers, sharing stale pizza, and actually going up to a ticket window cash in hand and walking away with actual tickets...not an email confirmation...such simple times.

Boy am I old :D

  • Standing in line memory time!

I remember standing in a line for The Black Crowes Three Snakes and One Charm tour and the guy who won the lottery to be first was the only one there not looking for Crowes tix. For the 30 minutes between the draw and the on sale time he was grinning ear to ear for having such a great chance to score tickets to some Tragically Hip band at Maple Leaf Gardens (we were at Ticketmaster 45 minutes west of Detroit). No one knew of them and he was more than happy to tell stories of lines wrapped around the Garden twice just for a wristband, and how they were they greatest thing since Rush, lol.

Next time I was in a record store I thought of this guy and and his stories of this magical band from Canada and thought I'd give them a shot. I purchased Fully Completely and popped it in. Now let me say here, I like Canada and all; in fact, I have many many fond memories of the bar strip in Windsor during my 19th and 20th years on this planet...but ugh...that shit was laughable. And I gave it a fair shot. I played most of an entire season of NHL '97 with it on in the background hoping to 'get' it. I didn't. And 15 years later, everytime I pass by that CD in my collection, I think of standing in line for Crowes tickets and that one guy from Canada who bypassed a lottery system 2 times the perimeter of MLG deep.
  • It is probably safe for me to admit this now.

In 2003 my buddy and I went to the Camden show.
We got there at around 6am.
There were maybe 10 other people in line.

Some really smart lady decided to make a "list" of those who were there early, so in case riots broke out or the line got disheveled closer to ticketing time, we would have a list of who should and shouldnt be in line.

By about 10am my buddy and i were sick of standing in line, so we went over to the marina and smoked a joint. (i let some bum step in to a port-o-john and take some tokes too, funny shit)

By about noon we were sick of the whole thing and figured, since we were on the list, we would just get on the ferry and go over to philly, go record shopping, get a cheese steak, some beer, and smoke some more dope.

When we got back around 2:30pm, the line was wrapped down about 5 city blocks and the ticket window was just getting ready to start up.
We casually strolled back up to our "spot" in line (about 15 back from the front or so) and were like, "oh hey guys wassup?" ... no one questioned a thing.

Yes i remember the good old days.

    lol.
If I was to smile and I held out my hand
If I opened it now would you not understand?

I stood in line for 13 hours to see Def Leppard on their Hysteria tour at the old Toledo Sports Arena....partied all night in the parking lot with a 1000 or so friends....at 10 am the doors to the ticket office opened and 30 minutes later I had tickets in my hand and a huge hang over....good times...no such thing as ticketmaster back then...you had to go to the venue to get your tiks.... :D

Good times for sure. I remember standing outside all day long, sometimes in real shitty weather. After doing that, then went into a 2+ hour show where I never took a seat and danced, sang and yelled my fool head off. I met some really cool people, had a great time and wouldn't trade it for the world. F5 that.
