I'll second this!
They are so talented...and currently nobody can match them live IMO!
One of the greatest...at the very least!

just curious, how many bands have you seen live to compare them to? i've seen a shit-ton of bands in my life. i think pearl jam puts on a great live show, but i've seen bands that are better. not trying to start an argument. this is all my opinion, just as what you said is your opinion. i'm just curious as to how many shows you've seen that weren't pearl jam.

When I judge a show...I include the "vibe" and atmosphere surrounding the gig...plus...and most importantly the performance.
Here's a list of bands: (top of my head)
(all PJ openers in Norcal)
STP
Nirvana
Soungarden
Beastie Boys
RHCP
Candlebox
Rage Against The Machine
Foo Fighters
Counting Crows
Tool
Smashing Pumpkins
Social Distortion
NIN
Green Day
Metalica
Linkin Park
Limp Bizkit
Korn
Deftones
Audioslave
Velvet Revolver
Slipknot
Incubus
Santana
The Who (2006)
The Rolling Stones
Bridge School Benifits (1992-2000, 2002)
Blink 182
Silverchair
Bad Religion
The Offspring
Ice Cube
The Roots
Public Enemy
Cypress Hill
Michael Jackson
Prince
I'm sure there's a few more...no bullshit involved.
I just find Pearl Jam a cut above in the "magic" department.
wow you've seen alot of shitty bands live.
I have a Godsmack DVD that I saw where Sully Erna says that it's a shame people get ripped off going to see shows with 4 or 5 guys in flannel shirts playing instruments. (obviously a rip on the grunge movement). He was saying that fans should get their moneys worth with props and pyrotechnics etc. I think Pearl Jam can do better than any of these bands live without any of the fancy stage props. Pearl Jam is the best live band I have ever seen and I have seen probably 20-30 live shows of other bands.

thanks, pj, for sharing your incredible talent with all of us :]
Yeah...maybe 1/3 are totally crappy...i'd argue the others. This is not counting the countless indie bands that i've seen locally...plus a bunch of rockabilly bands like Hayride to Hell and Reverend Horton Heat.
I just didn't think you guys would know any of those.

lol, don't worry i'm not calling bullshit. i was just curious as to how many bands you've seen live. i was really hoping your reply wasn't going to be "well, i've only seen 3 other bands besides pearl jam..." and i'm glad to see it wasn't.
it's all a matter of opinion, anyway. i'm not trying to tell you you're wrong in saying they're the best live band ever, i'm just saying in my opinion they're great live, but not the best. that's all, no fighting.
i'm not talking about pyrotechnics or props. closest thing that i dig at shows that could almost be considered in the pyro or props department is the lights. i love lots of color and lights that dance with the music. adds to the experience. the only time i'm accepting to pyro or props is if i'm seeing......well, a hair metal band, you know? like poison, or motley crue, or quiet riot, or ratt, you know? it fits with that type of band.
