haven't you heard, everything is right in the world since Bush left office and Obama is in...so there is no need for any telethons or look-at-me-I-care parades.

they call it flyover country for a reason...

My $0.02? I think Katrina outlined a lot of the problems the country had with emergency preparation, the levees, etc...

Joplin, while awful, seems to be just bad luck.

well ... your subject seems to focus on hollywood and not the media ...

if i had to speculate - i would say that these "disasters" are not significant news anymore ... with mass flooding in parts, twisters elsewhere, earthquakes in other places ...

obviously - we should be helping these people but at the same time - i'm here to tell you it will only get worse with this stuff ...

Personally... I think it is silly to even try to compare the two disasters.
Tell you what... let Joplin simmer for 3 days without any emergency response and leave the dead corpses in the streets and then... compare the two.

What are you talking about man..... The coverage has been non stop on this disaster... Every 5 minutes the media is giving updates on this disaster. Front page of the LA times, Joplin tornado is deadliest in 58 years ..MSNBC has been non stop since yesterday...ABC has been non stop....What the hell are you talking about?? Why do you compare this to Katrina?
I'm curious if your comment is race based. ... ..

What's weak? in regards to Katrina water was up to the roof of people's houses.... Do you think the average person could scuba dive into thousands of homes to pull dead people out? 1,800 deaths is much different then 118 deaths..... This just happen sunday night....Considering all the disasters that have been occurring each month ... I think the country as a whole is stepping up to help.... ...

Wait. Do you actually believe the peole (families, neighbors, firends) should have helicoptered the dead out of New Orleans? They were stuck in the Superdome... you really think they had the means to take their dead out of there? How?
You can't seriously compare the two disasters, can you? You are comparing apples and Hedgehogs. The similarity between the two is that neither one of them are Volvos.
Like I said... let the people of Joplin sit on the rubble of their former homes with no response for 3 days in a row, then, get back to me.

Race card? I'm simply curious since you have no point defending your thread....
What's the underlining point of the thread??? How do you compare the two? Can you defend your thread??? Cause it appears the media is all over this and it appears that people are helping those victims.....

The midwest is not getting the attention Katrina did is because the PEOPLE are helping themselves/communities. Katrina was a disaster from the top (gov) down to the people. But the people of N.O. did nothing to help their situation. I had a cousin living down there during that time (about an hour and a half away) who also helped as a contractor work with storm damage and he told me some seriously messed up stories during that time.

Because the citizens were responsible for the levees not being designed properly...

  • Because the citizens were responsible for the levees not being designed properly...

And let's face it... both were natural disasters but Katrina gave DAYS of warnings. There had been studies that said that one of the biggest natural disasters to hit America would be a category 5 hurricane hitting New Orleans. And virtually nothing was done but photo ops.

This time there was no warning at all so this wasn't a failure of FEMA. And the president didn't just fly over it and have his picture taken looking out the window.

With Katrina, they wasted no time to put together children's choirs to sing to the first lady about how Bush helped them. With this disaster, even with no warnings, the official reaction has been pretty good and yes... the people, along with the US government, have handled the problem very well. They don't NEED a telethon.

This time the people haven't been abandoned.

Now can you please stop whining about things and do something productive?

Like.. what have YOU done to help the people of Missouri?

You do know The Godfather was a Hollywood production right? This topic is absurd. It's apples and oranges for reasons that are obvious to pretty much everyone else.

And I have to ask, what's with your gimmick of putting your user name at the end of every post? We know who you are. The layout of the board makes it clear who the poster for each message is.
