Hey, i know there are like 3000 threads on this on the porch, waay too many to go through, but i was wondering how many passengers on this crazy train are making the trip to alpine valley?

i was in until last night when my 2 travel partners (primary and back up) both bailed on me. i am still waiting to hear back from backups number 2 and 3, but it ain't looking good :(

so basically i was wondering who was going and who i am going to miss meeting in person and drinking a beer with...

I attempted to buy tickets today but I couldn't get through. Plus the closest hotel that has rooms is about 55 minutes away, I live 2 1/2 hours away but I wonder if it is worth it. I thought about buying one of the packages but the prices are way too high. I figured after tickets, the shuttle, the special hang out area, and the posters that you were paying $900+ for hotel rooms. One of those places normally charges $90 a night. That is too much of an upcharge for me to accept.

I'll try for tickets again tomorrow, but if I don't get them I won't be overly upset.

The package deals are outrageously expensive! Too bad you can't car camp at Alpine.

I'm wasted my afternoon yesterday ... today better not be a repeat!

Got my tickets! Now I'm off to physical theropy for carpel tunnel syndrome from all the goddamn clicking of my mouse. ;)

Now to figure out where to stay  I'll probably end up at one of the campgrounds. Any advice from people that have been there? Snug Valley offers a free shuttle. I would like to go to one of the state campgrounds but they don't allow beer and other stuff :|

  • not i.
have no desire to sit through a bunch of bands i've never heard of (and given PJs "taste" in opening acts the last 10 years, I'm more than a bit scared...lol) ... and have ZERO desire to do that two days in a row.

Honestly, whose idea was it to run the same line up twice and force 10c members to buy tickets to both?
    that just seems ... weird.

    I dunno.
I'm holding my breath for some "unplanned" additions to the tour schedule for the year.
    AC, Philly, ... something.

    Not bitching, just saying.
i don't have the $ or time to travel to wisc. this year anyhow ... and not for *that* lineup.
    ;)

I hope everyone who *is* going has a fucking blast, rocks the fuck out, and I hope they all get to hear Black Red Yellow, Push Me Pull Me, Out of My Mind, Last Soldier, Aye Davanita, etc etc etc.
    ;):D :P

PS - ... now SOUNDGARDEN IN PHILLY !??!
I AM ALL THE FUCK OVER THAT ! ! !

Nope - going home to New Zealand for a month (leaving on Saturday actually) and that's going to drain the bank account. A shame - I wouldn't mind having a beer with some of you guys in real life instead of just yakking about politics on these here interwebs. Maybe if Pearl Jam ever plays the South again and you road trip here we can go on a pub crawl in the French Quarter haha

We don't even get Soundgarden here either (thanks for making me jealous about that, Drifting). I'm not going to lie - unlike 90% of the people who post on the Porch, if I was making my dream PJ20 lineup it would be an orgasmic grunge superfest.
And I listen for the voice inside my head... nothing. I'll do this one myself.

    Don't be too jealous.
    Your in NOLA, goddamnit!
(i was born there, left too soon - age 10 -- been back plenty-o-times though)

    Yeah. I'm with you.
I thought for sure "PJFest" was going to be something like this:
    PJ
    Soundgarden
[Temple of the Dog songs played]
    Janes Addiction
Alice In Chains ["RIGHT TURN" played!]
    Mudhoney
    Melvins
    Tad
    Strokes
    Kings of Leon
    Sleater Kinney *Reunion*

    or some such.
But hey. They're Pearl Jam. They do what they want.

I opted to not go. Like someone else said I also have no interest in the opening acts and the closest hotel I could get was almost an hour away.

Hope everyone has a good time.

I guess I am one of the (extremely) lucky ones. I booked a room at the Alpine Valley Resort back in Feb./Mar., and I was able to get tickets. Like some of you, I am not too siked about the opening acts, especially the fact that they are all playing both days. That makes no sense to me. This weekend should be about Pearl Jam, and it looks like it will simply be 2 PJ shows, 2 days in a row. I can do that at MSG, and for a lot cheaper.
I am hoping I will be surprised though: Soundgarden, AIC, Neil, Roger & Pete? Or, 2 insane, uber-extended PJ shows. When Phish has their Superball weekends, it is all about them: afternoon shows, acoustic sets, late night jams. I was hoping this would be the same, but we'll see.

I am looking forward to the road trip with an old friend from high school. And, being at the resort is key. I am doing enough camping this summer.

yeah. see. i don't know about this one. Special guests showing up, i could see (i tend to doubt there will be too much of a surprise though ... i've heard this kind of chatter about multiple shows at this point, & the magical-mystery guests rarely materialize -- cornell & cantrell being exceptions on the west coast) ...

but back to my original line of thought ... i don't know about the "uber-extended" PJ show.
Just *how much* PJ show do you want?

I like a good long show.
State College was truly special (but i think it had more to do with ed being really drunk, the crowd being really energetic, and it just being an "on" night) ...

Spectrum Night 4 was technically "the SHIT" ... but i found myself dozing off a bit towards the end. Literally sleeping? Never. Looking at my watch, needing to pee, wishing i had a beer, and feeling sleepy and "phased" at the length of the show? Yes.

I guess what i'm saying is, i'm sure you'll get a great set of shows at Alpine. I'm sure they'll be at least slightly above average in length. It is surely possible that someone will show up for a song or two (who knows) ... but in terms of them playing for hours and hours? Isn't there a limit to what the FANS can take? Let alone, the band?

I know pushing four hours was pushing it for me, and that sounds sacrilegious, but true. Sweet Lew was a "meh" by the time it rolled around, and thankfully the rest of the songs after that were more or less standards, because i sure was "out of my mind" by that point, and ready for it to be done. I never thought i would be so happy to hear YellowLed, although I was probably a little miffed that the show didn't just end with RITF by that point.

    Call me jaded.

    Hope Alpine is the shitz.
But if cornell shows up for TOTD shit, i'll have to jump through the computer and murder some folks.
    :D

ps - But if he DOES show up, can ya'll please scream for WOODEN JESUS ?!?

Okay dude, I get the point! You don't have to post it 3 times. Just kidding. I should have clarified my statements a bit. I simply don't want two nights in a row of a "standard show." I know, I am spoiled, but I am also spending a good bit of dough on this weekend. I was hoping for more of what Phish does at their weekend jams, as I mentioned in my earlier post. Maybe an acoustic set in the afternoon, a superjam with friends, and so on. Regardless, it is going to be an amazing weekend.
