  • And still fucking amazing.
Ahead of its time by miles when it came out.
Unappreciated and misunderstood by most at the time.
Soundgarden did lollapalooza 96 and no one even cared.
grunge was in the last days on its death bed,
sugar ray and smashmouth were on the rise, and so was the whole slut-white-girl pop scene.
i think cornell & the boys knew this.
they knew they couldn't make a better album than this,
and they knew everyone was so jaded that they wouldn't even care if they did.
they wen't out at the peak of their form without even a blink by the masses.

    BUT NOW THEY'RE BACK
(yes, after a decade of audioslave & cornell sucking it up solo, but who cares)

can't WAIT to see SG in June!

    woop woop.
If I was to smile and I held out my hand
If I opened it now would you not understand?

I was a little late to the Soundgarden party, and Down On The Upside was actually the first album of theirs that I bought. But after that I was a huge fan, and started buying up their previous albums, only to be listening to the radio on the way to school on morning not much later and some DJ said that they had broken up. I was bummed because I had JUST started to get into them.

Can't say enough about this album. One of my favorites of all time. Brilliant. Underrated. Overlooked.

Is it underrated and overlooked? I've never heard anything bad said about it. And when it came out it was a pretty big deal. Always on the radio and MTV, Soundgarden was on lots of TV shows. I mean it may have gotten kind of lost in the shuffle of music history, and when people look back at their career it is often overshadowed by Superunknown, but at the time it was huge and released to much fanfare.

But I'm just saying that as somebody who was 16 at the time and seeing all the hooplah as well as how people I know reacted to it. I never read any reviews or got the opinion of any hardcore Soundgarden fans (I don't know any HARDCORE, just casual fans) on the album. But that's partly why I was so surprised by the breakup, because they seemed to be on top of the world at the time.

15 years old and it still sounds fresh. I would say that album was 10 years ahead of it's time

The opening lines to Burden in My Hand! Gets me every fucking time!

Some great singing and lyrics on this album. Wish I had it on vinyl!

Burden in my hand is probably my favorite Soundgarden song. Matts groove is just flawless on it.
