how the fuck is a watch worth $150,000. you can get a house for that much. this is what's fucked with the world that anyone out there can possible justify spending that on a watch. i don't care if i had $25 million, i'd still look at a $150,000 watch and say "what the fuck?"

    What a joke.
And there are kids starving out there.
If I was rich I wouldn't even buy these watches, wtf makes them so expensive anyways? the label?
    I'd just get a standard $50-$100 watch.

I'm sure to those same starving kids the amount of money some of us spend on PJ Merch, traveling to see shows, etc, is obscene.

Yeah, it's not as much, but it is still money that could have been used to feed starving kids. I'm just saying I wouldn't knock somebody for spending their money on something I see as unnecessary when I spend money on stuff that a lot of others see as unnecessary. Until I send every last dime that I don't need to survive to feed the starving kids of the world, then I can't really talk. And you have to think, if you gave some of us here 150K, what would we do with it? I'm sure many would follow the band on the next tour, buy the bootleg box, and some other Merch. And I'm not knocking that, I would probably do it myself. All the while keeping time on my Swatch.

For every expensive item sold, there are a number of people who earn their living from it.

If you buy a more reasonable $81 watch by Fossil, they manufactured it in China. China is known to use sweatshops and/or child labor.... supported by each purchase.

If you buy a more expensive watch by Rolex, it is made in Switzerland and the people who make these watches are probably earning a decent wage and can support a family comfortably.... supported by each purchase.

...yet we're supposed to look down on people who buy/support the more expensive brand, in favor of cheaper watches made by children in an impoverished nation?

They way I look at it, the more expensive an item that someone buys, the more they are circulating their money to more and more people. A rich person not spending their money is not supporting families... livelihoods... etc.

    That's my take on it.
ADD 5,200 to the post count you see, thank you. :)

but the cheaper option is still supporting families who have no other form of income.

i know the company using these poorer nations do it to get a greater profit margin but it's still helping the people in the poorer nation to survive.

but i'm sure rolex probably has a greater profit margin them fossil. it doesn't mean that they are sharing it with their workers more. they are probably getting $400 a week on a product that makes $10,000 per unit where as the guy in the chinese factory is probably making $40 a week on an item that makes $80 per unit. but they are probably both decent wages in their countries, so it's all relative.

Speaking of watches, I haven't worn one for a long long time.
Ever since getting a mobile phone.

same, the battery in my good rip curl watch that i got in canada in 03 had been dead for a long time, just got it replaced a few weeks ago, cause i like to wear a watch when i'm rocking a suit, which happens very rarely, unless i'm at a wedding. but no i'm getting to the age where i'll probably be going to more funerals then weddings.
