really now? who says that there are not some crazy individuals out there who support these tea party candidates?
i am saddened to know that:
1. death threats and cyber harassment of a teenager seem to go unpunished
2. that Bachmann will not accept the challenge because this teenager would most likely win
Teen says she's received death threats after challenging tea party favorite to debate
CHERRY HILL, N.J. -- A New Jersey teenager says she's received threats since challenging U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann to a debate over the Constitution.
Ann Myers challenged the tea party favorite in a letter dated April 29. After it started getting media attention last weekend, commenters on tea party websites have threatened to publish her home address and some have threatened violence.
The 16-year-old from Cherry Hill says several commenters have called her a "whore."
Her father, Wayne, says he's concerned for his daughter's safety.
But Cherry Hill Police Lt. William Kushina says anonymous online threats like these are usually empty.
Myers says the Minnesota congresswoman misstates or distorts facts about the Constitution. Bachmann's office told The Courier-Post of Cherry Hill that it won't respond to the debate challenge.
stories like these just prove to me that the "comment" feature on these internet news websites should be disabled, or at least moderated.

Damn whipersnappers!
this is a debate. an intellectual exercise on the constitution. no excuse to threaten anyone over this. i think bachmann is afraid she would be exposed as the hack that she is.

I totally agree. We have some crazies on all sides of the fence in my town but I have to honestly say, it's the Tea Partiers I tend to shy away from the furthest. The fissures grow ever wider. It's too bad because I know a few Tea Partiers who are quite open to civil discussion. But would I attend of of the monthy Tea Party meeting here in town? No, honestly- I'd be too nervous.

This is why I can't understand death threats to someone challenging her. She actually has supporters out there???

My point was just that it's the internet, and people have a lot bigger bark than bite, regardless of what it is about. Yes people tend to take politics more seriously than music, but even so I had this clown saying he could get my IP Address and track me down. Crazy is crazy. As outraged as some Tea Party people might be, I don't think they would kill a teenage girl for simply offering a debate. People have insulted the Tea Party much worse than that, and to their faces, and I don't recall any Tea Party murderers as of yet. Yes they are stupid, but I'm not sure they're that stupid. And if they were going to go on a murderous rampage, I'm sure they have lots of other people they would rather kill than some teenage girl.
If somebody does do something to her, it's because they are flat out crazy, and politics is just an excuse. Much the same way that dude that threatened me probably had some underlying issue that wasn't related to Our Lady Peace.
Yes and as we all know, the Green Party is where the most respectable citizens maintain their blog comments...
Either that or this underlying issue has nothing to do with politics.
