Would most people here agree that Soldier Field '95 is one of, if not THE best PJ shows ever?

Ed's voice is too shot for me to be considered the best. Amazing nonetheless.

I would've loved to see that whole leg. Thats so awesome. Greg Graffin is one of the most unique and talented musicians out there.

Friends of mine that weren't PJ fans were quite offended that BR was opening for PJ instead of the other way around.

Twice. Once with BR opening in Sacramento and once with the Fastbacks and Ben Harper in San Jose. Great tour!!

You probably are thinking of Atlanta '94. That night was special because so many of us were eavesdropping via FM radio.

PJ were some big-ass dreamers then, broadcasting their entire concert across the land for free...What were they thinking? ;)

My vote for best-ever PJ show would have to be the second Randall's Island show in '96 or the second MSG show in '98.

Las Vegas and the second Seattle show from '00 get honorable mention from me.

Soldier Field 95 was my first PJ show, and it still to this day is the best fucking concert ever. I still remember buying the bootleg months later for $85....... and it was well worth the price.

Of what I have seen I would have to say either MSG2 98 or State College 03. State College was such a "you had to be there show" . The boot is amazing but being there was insane. Every thing about that show was perfect. Release opener. 2 improvs. What probably is the best Betterman ever. The Satan's Bed failed attempt. One of the best Daughters ever. The whole Porch speech in the middle when Ed starts talking about we are a "force to reckon with" and then doing the guitar mirror thing with the lights and he scans the whole crowd, and the very last spot he gets to is a guy holding a Penn State Flag, and Ed leaves it on him for a minute while the crowd goes nuts. Ed putting on the Dr J jersey thrown on stage. The daring the crowd to leave. The 40+ minute third encore. That show was fucking great.
    the vic was good too.

  • this would be impossible to judge. i have so many certain shows i like, mostly because of the bootleg i've listened to. for instance i'm sure being at Soldier Field in '95 was ridiculous. Being there must have been unreal. personally though, i like little rock from '03 a lot. the bootleg sounds so great, and mike is out of control on this night. same thing with uniondale '03.

legendary shows are the ones you "had to be there for" i like soldier field, but it's not one of my favorites because i wasn't part of it. i wasn't at little rock either, but it sounds so great and i like the setlist a lot.

short list of some of my favorites:
    atlanta II 1994
    pittsburgh 1998
    camden I 1998
    pittsburgh 2000
    camden I 2000

    mansfield III 2003
    state college 2003
    garden II 2003
    gorge 2005
    philadelphia 2005
    antwerp 2006
    newcastle 2006
    NYC 1992 (New Years Show)
san fransisco 1995 (A+ on the unique scale)
    copenhagen 2007

I agree that this show was one of the best but I also agree with the above. On a set list, energy, historical point of view it's up there but as for one of their best performances I don't think so. The MSG 2003 shows maybe MSG 1 was the best and Milan 2000. Boston 3 was great as far as the acoustic set and the fact they we're trying to play all the songs on tour, but the set list just didn't do it for me to be considered up their with their best. So I guess I'm saying it depends how you judge the best show ever, performance, set list, energy etc or the whole bag.
    My PJ shows:
    London 28/10/96, Las Vegas 11/7/98, London 29/5/00, Nurnburg 11/6/00, Prague 14/6/00, Salzburg 18/6/00, Verona 20/6/00, Milan 22/6/00, Zurich 23/6/00, New York 8-9/7/03, Boston 11/7/03, Reading Festival 27/8/06, Shepards Bush 11/8/09, Berlin 15/8/09, Manchester 17/8/09, London 18/8/09, Dublin 22/6/10, Belfast 23/6/10, London (HRC) 25/6/10, Alpine Valley (PJ20) 3-4/9/11, Manchester 20-21/6/12, Leeds 8/7/14, Milton Keynes 11/7/14 To be continued....
  • I've listened to a bunch of them and as far as the shows I didn't go too... I think it's easily Atlanta '94 II.

That must have been INCREDIBLE to have been there. Probably my favorite version of porch... and black is absolutely amazing.

That's my view. Great show, top dozen or so of all time, but Ed's voice hurts to listen to (for most of the summer/fall 95 tour).

There will never be a greatest show ever played but if there was...

The nominees (is that spelled right?) are:

    Soldier Field '95
    Randall's Island '95
    MSG '98
    Milan '00
    East Troy '03
    State College '03
    Gorge 6/22/06

    And Hopefully Soldier Field '08
