UPDATED: My girl said "Yes!"

3rd anniversay yesterday (19th May), so I had the ring ready and had asked her father for permission, and surprised her by getting down on one knee and popping the question... amongst tears and giggles, she said yes!

So then a gold 1970 Silver Shadow Rolls Royce (identical to the car in the first Bond movie, Goldfinger) picked us up and we went to dinner at a French bistro... best night ever! And she is a smokin' hot 25 year old! Yew!

    Do people normally ask the father, or is that more tradition?


    Now that I think about it, I remember hearing that as a child, but didn't know it was common practice..

    I mean, what if the father said no? Would that stop you?

    It's more for the 'blessing' I believe.

    I have had two of my three sisters get hitched. One of them didn't ask my old man, the other one did. My dad liked being asked, but he wouldn't have said no to either of them....

    Seems kind of too traditional to me. Why not ask the mother too? Is this a religious thing? I don't think I'd ask the father because it really wouldn't matter what he thought. I'm not marrying him.

    I'd probably ask anyways just to be nice, but it all seems silly. I don't think he'd disapprove of me.
