One of the most interesting results from the 2010 census, little discussed by the media, was the large scale movement of African Americans over the past 10 years from Democrat controlled cities in the northern United States including Chicago, Cleveland, Detroit, and New York to the more conservative south. In an historic reversal of the 20th century migration that brought millions north in search of economic opportunity, African American families are abandoning the failed liberal communities in which they have lived for decades.

Over the past 50 years predominantly black neighborhoods throughout the north have been treated by Democratic Party as socialist proving grounds. While under single party rule, traditional American virtues like self reliance, family, and education were abandoned in favor of liberal ideology that promoted victimhood and welfare. Not unexpectedly the socialist experiment worked about as well for the black community as it did for the Soviet Union. Instead of the utopian dream, the only thing many African Americans received in return for their loyalty to the Democratic Party was drug and violence filled streets and social devastation.

Democrat politicians’ commitment to minorities turned out to be nothing more than fleeting campaign talk as most turned a blind eye to widespread corruption and government mismanagement which plagued black communities. Much of the billions of dollars allocated by society over the years to help African Americans have been directed towards campaign donors and politically connected organizations that often delivered substandard services and shoddy work. Before joining the White House, presidential advisor Valerie Jarrett was the owner of Grove Parc Plaza, a publicly financed housing development in President Obama’s home district in Chicago. She was paid millions by the state to provide housing for low income residents, however, after only a few years of use, federal inspectors determined the complex was in such poor condition that “the buildings now face demolition.”

Democrats care more about protecting bloated public employee pensions than they do about making sure kids in their district learn how to read. While public employees are demonstrating to save their Viagra benefits and $100,000 a year for life retirement packages, it was recently measured in Detroit, the once proud symbol of American industrial might before the Democratic Party ruined it all, that 47% of the population is functionally illiterate including former Detroit School Board President Otis Mathis.

When Democrat politicians aren’t stealing the money, they are criminally wasting it. Obama began his political career as President of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, working along side his mentor domestic terrorist and educational “expert” Bill Ayers. Obama was responsible for a $387 million fund that was meant to improve the education of low income African American children. Instead of using the money to teach kids the core academic subjects of reading, writing and arithmetic, Obama and Ayers wasted it all on external community organizing groups who taught teachers “resistance to American racism and oppression” and promoted “radical political commitment” among the students.

Not surprisingly an official review found “no statistically significant differences between Annenberg and non-Annenberg schools in rates of achievement gain, classroom behavior, student self-efficacy, and social competence.” The only tangible achievement of the program was to raise an additional $600 million from private donors which has no doubt already been thrown away on other equally useless liberal nonsense.

African Americans Vote Republican with their Feet
Is it any wonder that African Americans are actively fleeing failed Democrat controlled cities throughout the northern United States? For too long the dead end street of socialism has devastated the black community with no tangible improvement after decades of liberal meddling. Detroit, the south side of Chicago, and many other black neighborhoods are being transformed into ghost towns as residents have grown tired of waiting for the government to make things better.

It is unfortunate that African Americans still vote reliably Democrat at the ballot box. While their hearts my still be with the party that has brought them nothing but empty promises and social devastation over the past 50 years, their feet are showing a distinctly Republican slant as millions seek sanctuary and economic opportunity in the conservative south.

What is funny about this "journalists" point of view is that everyone is leaving the North. Did you notice that most of the cities listed were industrial centers that have lost the majority of the US jobs? People of all colors are moving South because there are jobs here. People moved to those cities during the industrial revolution to find work. Steel, auto, and factory work was abundant. Now it is gone so people chase jobs--not politicians.

I live in North Florida and we just voted in the first black Mayor. I know many Blacks (mainly the young) will vote for candidates just because they are Black. So there maybe some truth to the points that Black Americans are moving to the South. The Tea Party helped him get in also, and yes, he is a Democrat.
What outrageous me is the Black politicians rallying the blacks with promises of help and then pocketing the money.

What's sad is that leftist like yourself can't come to terms with the fact that your left wing ideology ie liberalism is a failed ideology and doesn't work. It drives you nuts that people like African americans are waking up to the fact that they don't need or want the gov to take care of them any longer because all it does is keep them poor.

The only facts in the article is the census data results, which I already knew. The rest is opinion, which you should be able to tell. Conservatives just want to eat up anything about how the so-called liberal values and policies are destroying the country, so this writer is serving it up. Conservatives will put hits on the web page and regurgitate back like it's the truth. I guess it brings them some kind of comfort.

And why have those jobs gone away? That's the Question you should be asking yourself. Many of those companies are moving to right to work states. BMW and Boeing are just a few that have come to the state I live in. Michigan and Texas are another example.

And you know what's funny. We just elected our first black congressman in SC 1st district Tim Scott. ;) And I'd love to see Americas second black president. And it ain't Obama.

    it is the truth.
They are destroying our country unless you want us to turn into an offspring of Europe. This country was founded on conservative values. If you think differently than you are sadly mistaken or just ignorant. For gods sake man take a look around. Look at our debt, gas prices, food prices, the housing market, jobs.all from mostly left wing policies. I'm not sure how old you are but I'm guessing you are probably in your 20's so you probably don't have any kids. If I'm wrong I apologize. my point is our future generations aren't going to have a future if we don't turn this ship around.

Pal, you need to get your facts straight on a few things.

For starters, I am an African American, and I am born and raised as well as educated in the Northeastern part of the country, and intend to stay here. I really don't care for the "conservative south." I have a great job here at home.

Like most conservatives, they hope that we all have some sort of amnesia when it comes to their royal screw-ups to this great country. Need we go back into the history of the Republicans going back to the Reagan era 30 years ago, or even back to the Hoover era.

Let me lay down some facts.

    - Hoover, along with the Republicans in the late 1920s/early 1930s put this country into the Great Depression. And FDR, a Democrat saved the country financially, and won WWII on top of that. Where do you think bank holidays and the national parks came from? From the FDR/Truman era.

    - Reagan , a Republican in the 80s was the first president to run the US into over a trillion dollar deficit with "voodoo economics" and crash the stock market. Obviously, some people don't want us to remember that one.

    - Bush I, a Republican - mass deficits, Savings& Loan scandal, and the Lincoln Savings scandal that ripped off thousands of senior citizens in the early 90s. It cost this country billions, on the taxpayer dime. And Bill Clinton, a Democrat in his two terms had this country at a $622 million dollar surplus before Bush II wrecked the country with two wars and deregulation (the sub-prime mortgage mess.)

    - Now to Bush II. After inheriting a surplus, he and Dick Cheney and crew managed to turn this country into a debtor nation with those $1 billion dollar a year tax cuts for the top 1 percent, as well as an orchestrated war in Iraq that was off the budget books, and damned near put us into another Great Depression.

    BRILLIANT!!!!!!!

Remember, Treasury Secretary Paulson asked for the $700 billion bailout, during the Bush II administration, so you cannot pin that on the current administration. And don't forget that the Obama Administration succeeded where the Bush II Administration failed: THEY TOOK OUT OSAMA BIN LADEN. And that really seems to burn these righties up.

You can do the math - REPUBLICANS DON'T KNOW HOW TO RUN GOVERNMENT, THEY ONLY KNOW HOW TO WRECK IT AND BENEFIT THE TOP %1 IN THE PROCESS.

And you and other conservatives talk about liberals destroying this country; just look at the works of Hoover, Reagan, Bush I and Bush II (and I failed to mention Nixon and Ford.)

    And always in constant denial.

The Republicans love starting wars and running up mass deficits , and it takes a Democratic president to clean it up - history tells us so.

All I know is that here in Atlanta (notice - a SOUTHERN city) unemployment among blacks is shockingly high (several points above whites) and the number of African American people living well below the poverty line in what can only be described as gang-ridden slums is huge.

African Americans might well be moving to the South, but I promise you, it sure as HELL is not for any kind of glorious economic opportunity afforded blacks in this BRIGHT RED state. Step into any Department of Labor Office in this entire state (even the counties that are extremely affluent and predominantly white by a large margin) and I promise you, the lion's share of the people sitting there waiting to apply for unemployment benefits are black. A much higher percentage than that group's corresponding percentage of the general population.

Shoot, in this state, the right-wing redneck contingent is STILL pissed off that we no longer have the confederate flag as our state flag. Do you REALLY think that your average African American actually believes he or she has a BETTER shot at a great job here than in, say, NYC? And do you REALLY believe that your average African American in ANY state believes the good 'ole white boys of the Republican Party (and especially the Georgia Republican Party!) have THEIR best interests at heart?

Please! I cannot even begin to imagine how HARD you must have to work at blatantly partisan political rationalization to believe that! It must be so exhausting!

Sorry. I am a political moderate. But this dog don't even come CLOSE to hunting. And any truly objective person walking into any unemployment office in this state would tell you the same thing.

Shoot, given that our unemployment rate in general is well above the national average and our housing market is one of the 3 worst in the nation, I can't imagine anyone, black or white, moving to or staying in Atlanta right now for any reason related to economic prosperity. Because it no longer exists here. We have, like, a 21% vacancy rate in our housing market right now, our homes have lost over 25% of their value in 4 years, and our foreclosure rate is through the roof. Add our 10% unemployment rate to that (and that is not counting all the people who have rolled off of unemployment and are no longer counted, and all the people who are underemployed or only employed part time...and trust me, ANYONE would have to be positively nuts to see this state as any kind of 'land of economic opportunity'. And even more so if they are black and are up against the good 'ole white boy network to get a job.

Definitely. Lying to your constituents is just as prevalent among white politicians as it is among black politicians. It happens so freaking often I'm beginning to think it's actually a prerequisite for running for office - any office.

    Olive: America, the world’s sweatshop

I saw a headline earlier this week for what I assumed was the umpteenth story about Dominique Strauss-Kahn’s alleged sexual misconduct at a Manhattan hotel last weekend: “The U.S.: Where Europe comes to slum.”

But the topic was far more disturbing than the conduct that earned “DSK” seven criminal counts for physically abusing a 32-year-old chambermaid.

In the Los Angeles Times, Harold Meyerson, a veteran progressive journalist, was trying to surface an under-the-radar trend of profound importance to the welfare of North American workers. Namely, that the U.S. South is becoming the world’s sweatshop of choice.

U.S. and a few Canadian manufacturers have long been relocating in the low-wage U.S. South. They’ve now been joined by European multinationals, most of which also operate in Canada. The Euros leave behind the social-justice practices of their homelands, as keen to squeeze blood from a stone as the most avaricious business operator.

A stunning Human Rights Watch report from last September describes systematic exploitation of U.S. workers by such familiar European names as Ikea, Sodexo, BMW, Siemens, Daimler and Volkswagen.

“Even self-proclaimed ‘progressive’ companies can and do take full advantage of weak U.S. laws,” says Arvind Ganesan, HRW’s human rights program director. “The U.S. needs to close the loopholes in the country’s woefully inadequate laws to protect workers.”

So what exactly are we talking about, in a society where I get dirty looks for confessing that I bought my shirt at Wal-Mart?

Sweden’s Ikea was revealed in April to be operating a manufacturing plant in Danville, Va., that is a toxic brew of charges of racial discrimination, routine worker maltreatment, and brutally successful efforts to bust union-organizing drives.

Sodexo, which operates the cafeteria at this newspaper and my Mom’s nursing home, has threatened and fired workers who tried to unionize, as HRW found from studying official decisions by U.S. labour-law authorities, along with worker interviews and employee court testimony.

At its newish California chain of grocery outlets, U.K. supermarket giant Tesco has muzzled workers trying to discuss organizing a union. The Netherlands-based Gamma Holding has hired permanent replacement workers to put strikers out of a job — in contravention of international labour standards, but not of U.S. law.

And Deutsche Bank turns out to be one of LosAngeles’s biggest slumlords. After foreclosing on some 2,000 L.A. homes, Deutsche Bank continued collecting rent while allowing the premises to rot and become gang-infested to such an extent that dead bodies are not infrequently found there. “Nothing, in other words, that would be allowed to happen . . . in Frankfurt, the neat-as-a-pin German city that is home to Deutsche Bank,” Meyerson writes.

The hypocrisy here stinks to the heavens. In Europe, minimum wages average $19 an hour. Governments mandate five-week paid vacations. Norway just introduced paid paternity leave. And most European multinationals not only are unionized, but union reps fall just short of a majority on many European corporate boards.

Many top European firms have joined “the race to the bottom” in employee costs.

But China is no longer the “off-shoring” jurisdiction of choice. With annual wage gains now averaging 15 per cent to 20 per cent, combined with stagnant wages in North America, China will lose its labour-cost advantage over North America in just four years time, according to a report this month by the Boston Consulting Group.

From Hamburg to Lyon to Stockholm, the question is why aren’t we serving the North American market from lower-cost facilities there? Which means that “guilt-free shopping” will soon mean avoiding “Made in USA” labels on products made by workers denied a decent living wage.

The Euro-exploiters are especially drawn to the U.S. South, which for three decades have lured employers with so-called “right to work” laws. That’s an Orwellian term for government-sanctioned hostility to workers’ rights, including the right to organize.

In small-town Virginia, Ikea gets away with paying workers to make the components of its trademark bookcases just $8 an hour, and granting only 12 paid vacation days.

In North American culture, jobs are dispensable. In Peoria, Ill., Caterpillar laid off 25,000 workers on one day in 2009. Try that in France or Italy and you’re inviting a national general strike.

U.S. officialdom has for years hectored other nations to upgrade their labour-rights standards. But as the HRW report shows, the issue is retrograde U.S. labour standards.

The irony here is that employee denigration does not work. German manufacturing pay averages 50 per cent higher than that of the U.S. Yet Germany enjoys a massive trade surplus. And America suffers a ruinous trade deficit, for all its disdain of European-style full-employment practices.

My local Staples manager complains he can’t keep employees “because we don’t pay much. I can’t blame them for leaving.” High turnover hikes training costs and annoys customers dealing with staff who lack product knowledge.

This a social-justice issue, no mistake. But really it’s the hard-headed business strategy of a Henry Ford, who paid above-average wages to spur consumption.

It’s the reason today that Costco, with its outsized employee benefits, outperforms Wal-Mart. (Costco shares have increased 133 per cent over the past decade, to Wal-Mart’s measly gain of just 6 per cent.)

And it’s among the reasons that Eaton’s is dead. In the midst of the 1985 strike at that Canadian retailer, I asked then-CEO Fredrik Eaton why his family chose to break a nascent union, rather than deal respectfully with employees on the picket lines who had me almost in tears describing their loyalty to the then 116-year-old firm.

“People here have no need of unions,” said the fourth-generation Eaton owner-CEO, who declined to elaborate. Fourteen years later Eaton’s filed for bankruptcy.

I’m not saying maltreated employees were the chief factor in the demise of Eaton’s. But the casual regard for employee relations at Eaton’s was indicative of management’s ineptitude generally.

When you’re next at Ikea, ask the workers serving you — a surly lot, I’ve always found — what the pay is like before imagining that you are engaged in “guilt-free shopping.”

It has nothing to do with ideology. It has everything to do with human nature and greed.

I was once pretty conservative and am pretty liberal now. I don't blame any ideology for these problems. That's moronic. When will people start owning up and stop pointed their fucking fingers at the other side..

Simply put, as a conservative I viewed the world as black and white.. As a liberal I view it as grey.
