Yeah, if they don't want to be open to it don't worry about it. Better seats for you at shows.

  • what "hardcore" bands does he listen to?

I'm really waiting to get a chuckle off at this dudes vastly "superior" musical taste.

Must suck to be jealous of people because you were born too late to have much good current music\bands available (at least not in the mainstream, which is where must teenyboppers get there taste from) ... and you have to act all cool and like shit instead.

  • What about this apparently "hardcore" kid playing guitar hero? I mean, it's a great game but seriously... if you are trying to be "hardcore", a plastic guitar and colored buttons isn't going to help you much.

High school blows. Don't let him get to you... you have far superior music taste.

You have good taste beyond your years...You should know that. I'm glad PJ isn't very popular with that age group, and I kind of hope it stays that way.

I too don't understand people who judge with out listening. Or trying anything new. It's not just good music they are limiting themselves to, but a whole lot more. It is just their loss in the long run. :)

His: Killswitch, Atreyu, Lamb Of God (who ARE awesome).. and other shit..

You know i have such a hard time understanding the headspace of the modern teenager ...

i mean, i guess i understand that Ten (evenflow) has a "dated" sound, with all the reverb\delay and that washed out 70's Arena-ish sound ... but even still ... if you are a teenager, Ten should be fucking getting you off.

Those songs are legitimate tunes about angst, trauma, pain, tribulation and so forth ... what is not to LOVE about it? ESPECIALLY as a youth.

And then, if we can finally move past that ONE album (or song, in this moron's case) ... there are albums after endless albums of great material to relate to.

I guess it must really suck to be stuck thinking that only music that goes Duh-Duh-Duh-Duh-Duh! Roaaaaar ROaaaar Roaaaar! is "good".

This reminds me of a current trend that is annoying - people saying something 'sucks' because THEY don't happen to like it. Why can't they just say they don't like it? Pearl Jam does not suck simply because that person doesn't like them. There's bands I don't really connect with, but I respect their musical quality.

Many young'uns just like the flavor of the month. Atreyu, Killswitch Engage are hot bands right now with the young ones. But in ten years will he still be listening to them? I somehow don't think so.

I don't get it. They should be treated like how I treated Pink Floyd when I was 17. Instead they get treated like they're Journey or something by an age group that I'm guessing labels them as a dated sound. I don't know.

Well, I don't understand it either. I've given up on trying to convert people into the wonderful world of pearl jam's music. I just look at it like their loss. I also understand though that pearl jam is not everyone's cup of tea, just like some bands I know people like but I just can't get into. Living in Houston though, it's hard to find pj fans. They are here, but hard to find especially the single pearl jam ladies- God I'd love to meet my girlfriend/ future wife but that's a whole other thread though. :)

When I was in high school (graduated in 2005) everybody in the school listened to Pearl Jam, even the teachers. We even watched Single Video Theory instead of having a Geography test when I was in 10th grade. It was only a small school (250 students or so) so I guess music caught on a lot easier.

thats why i put "at least in the mainstream" in parenthesis... ;)

and FYI, i only like about 4 of the bands on that list ... most of those bands are WAY to "wussy" for me. Sorry. I'm not saying they are "bad", and you are more than welcome to enjoy it ... i'm just saying i like a little cock with my rock ... and most of those bands are influenced by the all-screwing vagina of a band that is Radiohead ...

    so ...?
i'm well aware there is more than just PJ out there.

This should have been your exact response.

Next time he says that, respond with the above statement. When he tries to retort, interrupt him with "NERD ALERT". From then on, anytime he tries to speak, just keep replying "NERD ALERT".

I mean, its not so much that he plays guitar hero, just the fact that he had to say, "I never play Even Flow on Guitar hero." .....as if to say, "Thats way too lame to play on guitar hero. I play the hardcore stuff on guitar hero."

An 18 year old saying this means a lot to me. It makes me appreciate the fact I got to go through my high school years during a true musical revolution that is still revered. It was cool for me because PJ was still one of the biggest bands on the planet during my formidable years. Every generation deserves a band like that, but not every generation gets one. There are some pretty good newer bands out there, but nothing PJ circa 1994 as far as I can see.

I got a stickman tattoo on my 18th birthday (which was, uh... last May:o), and shortly afterward a friend of mine was thinking about getting a tattoo and went on a bit of a rant about how people get tattoos of stupid things they like now but will forget about in 6 months. So I said, well I got a Pearl Jam tattoo. He replied, "yeah, but Pearl Jam's timeless." :)

I definitely relate to the original poster, and I wish there were more PJ fans our age out there! I was with a friend of mine, who's 20, and I said something about Pearl Jam and he was like "Is that a band?" shameful...
