thats why i put "at least in the mainstream" in parenthesis... ;)

and FYI, i only like about 4 of the bands on that list ... most of those bands are WAY to "wussy" for me. Sorry. I'm not saying they are "bad", and you are more than welcome to enjoy it ... i'm just saying i like a little cock with my rock ... and most of those bands are influenced by the all-screwing vagina of a band that is Radiohead ...

    so ...?
i'm well aware there is more than just PJ out there.
you don't have to treat me like some stuck-in-the-90s moron.

What about this apparently "hardcore" kid playing guitar hero? I mean, it's a great game but seriously... if you are trying to be "hardcore", a plastic guitar and colored buttons isn't going to help you much.

This should have been your exact response.

Next time he says that, respond with the above statement. When he tries to retort, interrupt him with "NERD ALERT". From then on, anytime he tries to speak, just keep replying "NERD ALERT".

I mean, its not so much that he plays guitar hero, just the fact that he had to say, "I never play Even Flow on Guitar hero." .....as if to say, "Thats way too lame to play on guitar hero. I play the hardcore stuff on guitar hero."

This reminds me of a current trend that is annoying - people saying something 'sucks' because THEY don't happen to like it. Why can't they just say they don't like it? Pearl Jam does not suck simply because that person doesn't like them. There's bands I don't really connect with, but I respect their musical quality.

Many young'uns just like the flavor of the month. Atreyu, Killswitch Engage are hot bands right now with the young ones. But in ten years will he still be listening to them? I somehow don't think so.

    Good points.

Funny for a 18 year old, I could swear I grew up and lived through the grunge era lol.. I HATE music today..

An 18 year old saying this means a lot to me. It makes me appreciate the fact I got to go through my high school years during a true musical revolution that is still revered. It was cool for me because PJ was still one of the biggest bands on the planet during my formidable years. Every generation deserves a band like that, but not every generation gets one. There are some pretty good newer bands out there, but nothing PJ circa 1994 as far as I can see.

I got a stickman tattoo on my 18th birthday (which was, uh... last May:o), and shortly afterward a friend of mine was thinking about getting a tattoo and went on a bit of a rant about how people get tattoos of stupid things they like now but will forget about in 6 months. So I said, well I got a Pearl Jam tattoo. He replied, "yeah, but Pearl Jam's timeless." :)

I definitely relate to the original poster, and I wish there were more PJ fans our age out there! I was with a friend of mine, who's 20, and I said something about Pearl Jam and he was like "Is that a band?" shameful...

I just HATE the word "suck(s)" I don't know why but I usually tell the person to shut the fuck up if he/she doesn't have a reasonable answer to why they dislike a certain band.

I love music and all sorts of genres and if there's a band I'm not too familiar with I'll just say "I haven't heard much of their music."

I even stopped considering "One-Hit wonders" as that term because I discovered a shit load of those kind of bands that really really rocked. i.e. Faith No More and Soul Coughing.

I just had the opposite experience the other day
A son of our friend (14 yrs) spoke to me the other day
" you like Pearl Jam dont you " he said And I replied you bet. He then said " Ive been playing my Guitar hero and they have this really cool song EVEN FLOW, its unreal, do they have any other good songs"
I just smiled and said mate Let me make you a few discs of live and studio stuff that will blow your head off.

i'm twice as old as you--god, it pains me to type that--but i was the same way when i was your age. i listened to late 60s-early 70s music--mostly the who and led zeppelin.

Vs. to get the train moving, then No Code to send it flying down the track. Once he is that far send him on the bootleg trail to find the songs he already loves, and along the way he'll figure out the rest for himself.
