Portland, OR Suggestsions

Traveling there in June and to Seattle as well. Staying at the Kennedy School. Can people give me suggestions out there. Interests: Beer (duh, in this town, where are your fave places?), Record Stores, Pinball, BBQ. I'll take any Seattle recommendations as well. Thanks.

it was a nice clean town with like zero potholes.
although i don't recall specifics, it was one of my more enjoyable towns visited.
glad i couldn't hlep
Love Portland. The Widmer brewery is definitely a must. Get the Reuben with a Hefeweisen (sp?)....you will not be sorry
As for Seattle...the Pyramid Brewery right across from Safeco is also a must. The Apricot Ale is my fave beer ever...
if you are flying in to portland, coming around mt hood (????) is a pretty neat.
Enjoy!

Borrowing or renting a bike is a great way to see the town. I like walking around the different neighborhoods just to stumble across different things. There's great brewpubs all over, but particularly in the Pearl (fancy) and SE Portland from the river to about 35th (hippie). Widmer is a big operation. Here's a great beer blog:

Click on the "visitors guide" down the right side of the page. There's too many options to pick just one favorite. The Horsebrass in SE has a lot of taps and history, but they don't make their own.
The Gorge and the coast are very beautiful. The gorge is closer at an hour away with good hiking and waterfalls.
I've eaten at Clays' BBQ in SE. It was good.
Best things to do would be to hit Saturday/Sunday Market on the waterfront and roam around downtown if it's nice. The Rose Festival happens for most of June and there's lost of stuff to do.
BBQ spots, hit Leroy's Familiar Vittles, it's a food cart, or Russel Street BBQ for more of the restaurant style.
Record stores hit up Jackpot records or Music Millennium.
There's always a drive to Mt. Hood or the coast, both barely over an hour away. PM for more Q's
Have fun!
You're the winner for best place for me so far, thanks! And thank you to all for your suggestions.
I forgot about the food carts, lots of good ones. You can also quickly blow a few hours at Powell's bookstore on Burnside (it's hugely awesome). I always like going to Music Millennium.
I concur with the food carts. DeSchutes brewery is good too.

Correction: Deschutes is great!
Sorry! Yeah, it's awesome.
Henry's 12th St Tavern (did I get the name right?) is great too.
The Hotel Deluxe was a great place to stay, and had a happy hour at 3:00 (!) with $5 champagne cocktails!

Maybe they're talking about McMenamins Kennedy School:

They have a bunch of places around Oregon and some in Washington, several of which they convert into hotels with different quirky features. There beer can be hit or miss, but I always have fun going to one of them.
Portland's a great city. Try to make some time to walk around the different neighborhoods just to see what you find.
