A doubled up donation? Okay, I'm in for that :)
Let me know if you get it cos I'm the last money I sent to your account for the garage sale hasn't gone through yet, so I hope I haven't done something dumb when trying to send you cash.

Hey-- I got you! :) sorry- I am the keeper of the paypal account, and since you sent it in polish currency, i had to get online and convert it to USD--that is NOT a problem, just want you to know why it didnt show as going through. It should now :)

    THank you!!

You guys are all awesome. I was talking to my buddie last night about this place and told him about the Bugs group and he said. "Thats what i'm talking about people helping other people because its the right thing to do"

Everyone who has donated, said a kind word or even a little prayer for me and stace (my g/f) thank you so much you all rule.

It's the least we can do, Mike. I've been on both ends of luck and when mine was down (when I got hyperacusis and bad tinitus from an explosion), folks helped me out. I'm lucky now to be able to give back and believe me, we're all pullin' for you!

  • Just reading and browsing and it occurred to me that, although the first recipient has been very open - and indeed falling on hard times is nothing to feel ashamed about, there but for the grace of God go I, as they say - some people might not feel comfortable asking for help if they know that the whole PJ community will be aware of it. I just wanted to put it out there that I would be willing to donate with or without the back story and I'm sure others would feel the same. I trust that anyone on this board who you guys running this thing think is in sufficient need to be helped needs my help enough for me to contribute without needing to know the details. Just wanted to put that out there in case other people are hesitant about asking for help because the are a little embarrassed or shy or something.

Having said that, I'm very glad that we are able to donate to Mike.

    All the best.

I understand what your saying and that's why with my movie tickets I wrote that I didn't need to know anyone's ins or outs, just that they would like them. People sometimes are too shy to ask for help, I agree.
I think I can speak on behalf of everyone on the Bugs Board when I say that we would never dream of embarrassing any recipient and would only divulge information that was agreed upon between ourselves, the nominee and the recipient.
I think your comment is very true and thoughtful though and we will certainly take it on board with each and every recipient we, a 10C member or outsider choose to help. :)
Thanks so much for your lovely post and thoughful donation, we need more people like you. :)

Thats why i have been so open about my situation. So other people who need help may step forward. The Bugs group was very awesome about keeping my name private if i wanted. I felt that if my stubourn ass could say i need a hand then maybe others will.

Believe me they were all for not identifying me if that is what i wanted. But i also wanted to thank each and every person who has donated to this group.

I know it sucks to ask for help. I come from a family of hard headed pollocks so asking for help is tough for anyone in my family. But it is better to ask for help from a group the of friends we have here then to let things spiral out of control.

Again thank you i seriously can't thank you guys enough. Like i said i wish i could hug you all. (But i'm not gonna) LOL Alice in Chains unplugged reference but seriouosly i would hug all of you if i could. Everyone who has been involved will get a big kiss from Ms. Karma in the future.

  • I'm my eyes it takes more courage to ask for help than it does to suffer in silence. Too many of us are too stubborn to ask for help that would be freely given because we fear losing face. And to be the first to stand up takes more courage again, my hat goes off to you.

It's a sad thing about our modern world that we all feel so connected by the media we have and the 'community' that they offer us, and yet so many of us are simultaneously becoming more isolated as we lose the social connections we once had with a smaller group of close friends. I know that here in Poland when everyone was suffering under communism, help was something that was an accepted norm of society. Nowadays, in the world of new shopping malls and new riches, those who fall on hard times feel they are somehow not "keeping up with the Jones's" and are embarrassed to ask for help. People in countries such as this are very keen to show that they have acquired wealth since the markets opened up with the fall of COmmunism, and they buy every status symbol that they can to prove it! And at the same time, those, who for whatever reason, are struggling, slip more and more into the background.

So, I love the idea of this thread, it goes against all the trends. It shows that a virtual community can thrive and help and cooperate, without the people being isolated entities. Of course, all of that is not intended to suggest that Communism was a good thing! I'm just saying that it is great to see the most modern technology we have being used to fulfill such fundamental and ancient principle of helping each other out.

    Alright, I'm rambling... sorry!

I appreciate the fact that your brought up the privacy issue--Its something we havent really addressed all that much I guess.

Mike is correct- BUGS offered him to be completely anonymous, to allow us to tell his story but not identify him, or we could put his name out there. Funny thing was, i was waiting for him to give me a definite answer between the last 2 options and I was on my way out for the afternoon/night, so I just posted it without his name attached. I came back to a post on the thread "Hi, I'm MIke...." That was fucking AWESOME!!

I should say- this goes for nominators too. If you want to nominate someone but you don't want them to know that you were the one to do it, BUGS is cool with that too.

I know we've had our high holy days of PJ20 and Canadian tours... but this is still important, and this was the easiest-to-find BATW thread I could find.
