Thought it would be fun to post videos of some of your favorite guitar solos. I find this particular one to be a genius. Watch this video from 5 minutes to the finish. He is on a different universe when it comes to soloing and using effects.

With options like Gilmour and Hendrix you're putting this guy in another universe?

Most overrated guitar clip in the history of the world. Not horrible or anything, I think people were just blown away that Prince could actually play.

Dinosaur Jr. 'Forget the Swan' from September of 2012. That middle solo is unbelievable. J. Mascis is a legend.

Spot on... you can't start a thread called "Ultimate GUITAR performance" with an Incubus video... I watched that solo from 5mins onwards, someone needs to explain to me what's so great about that apart from some guy using effects pedals for smoke and mirrors. And when I saw the title of the thread, I was going to do a "IBPV" post, but somebody had committed the crime. That video will fade into distant memory one day and the real quality will once again shine through, I'm surprised it still gets posted.

I'll stop being obnoxious now. Just recently I've been really enjoying John Renbourn, after seeing him on a "roots of Led Zeppelin's music" programme on Sky:

I'm surprised no Led Zeppelin yet. Especially since whenever one of these pop up, the Knebworth '79 performance of Achilles Last Stand is usually present for good reason. The studio version is probably one of my favorite, if not THE favorite, song of all time. And Jimmy does a pretty decent recreation of the song here, considering the studio version was overdubbed with 12 guitar tracks.

Not very original I know, but that video belongs in every thread of this kind. It's probably my favorite rhythm section performance ever too, on the studio recording at least. They're still great here though.

Bonham was unbelievable on that show. Page great but not at his best. Plant actually sounded better in 2007 at the O2. Jones & Bonham at Knebworth made such an incredible rhythm section. Amazing! But for guitar, I'll go with the spectacular version of White Summer that's on the Zeppelin DVD.

Its the Knebworth 79 show that cemented Bonham in my mind as the greatest rock drummer ever. Nobody since has been able to play at anywhere near the level that he displayed at that show. That version of Achilles Last Stand is absolutely insane. The combination of Bonham and Jones's rumbling bass is unreal.

Although there is no video that I know of... listen to Steve Hunter and Dick Wagner on Lou Reed's, 'Rock N Roll Animal' album.
    It's pretty good.

FUNKADELIC - Maggot Brain (Eddie Hazel & Michael Hampton, Maryland 1983)

I Was There...at the Capital Centre Landover, Maryland tripping out of my mind. 8-)
BEST performance of Maggot Brain I have EVER seen...completely ludicrous face-melting guitar.

A few words on the song *Maggot Brain*....

Funkadelic leader George Clinton explains maggot brain as a state of mind, transcending the body and enjoying the expansive freedoms of The Funk. Achieving maggot brain is often accomplished with the help of narcotics.

This song was recorded in one take. Clinton surrounded Funkadelic guitarist Eddie Hazel with a massive amount of amps. He told Eddie to first play like he just heard that his mother had died, then to play like his mom was actually still alive. The result was one of the best-known Funk guitar solos of all time.
