An 18 year old footballer (rugby league) has knocked back a million dollar contract to go on a morman pilgrimage for two years...

I know what I would do, and it wouldn't involve trekking with some donkey...

You?

Agreed about the strong character. Takes a strong man to give up a monetary thing for his beliefs.
    Good for him. :D

  • There was a similar story to this while I was in high school. I played 3 years of basketball in Arizona for AAU and my high school team before heading back to California. My junior year of high school Austin Ainge(son of Danny Ainge) played at a rival school and was in his senior year(They ended up knocking us out of the state tourney that year, bastards!). He could have played just about anywhere he wanted in college for free, decided to go to BYU(shocker! :P ) and put the career on hold for two years so he could head on his mormon pilgrimage.

Let me fill you in on his father... Recently he was charged for bashing up a patron at a nightclub where he was the security, the other security guard has been charged with manslaughter as the guy he was bashing up died.

Then there was this incident that made headlines world wide

Well, yes rugby league (difference between rugby and ruby league) will always be there, however, you think about what someone sacrifices to be good at sport and quite often its an education. SO he leaves after such a great start to his career, he loses form, fitness, strength and reputation. His contract when he comes back will not be as good as the one he has turned down, (and in aussie sport, we don't deal with multi multi million) he was rumoured to be offered 1.5m over 2 years which is huge for rugby league. Then he has about 10 years to earn as much money as he can (footballers generally retire around 30) to set up his life. Because if he is like most sportsmen here in aust, he won't have much to fall back on.

he has a thousand kids, and my mate coach's his little brothers footy team that plays regularly against hoppas son. My mate always says he is very nice, and comes over and talks to my mate, about footy and how his teams going and what they're doing... I agree with you, but it's amazing how people can have these disgusting sides and then a nice side too. Poles apart

Wait so it's hoppa's kid who is the morman??

Anyway, every morman has to do the pilgramage thing when they turn 18. I know a guy who played basketball and he was gonna be in the NBL but when he turned 18 he had to go to Perth to door knock.

You ever notice how most morman door knockers are young, they don't get a choice if they don't they get booted out of the religion.

Wait, maybe I'm thinking of Jehovah's. I get the two confused.

Mormons for $1000, Alex. You were right. They are called Elders and they have to be posted for 2 years in another state or country. They have to go right after high school.
Lots of love, light and hugs to you all!
