Since Beamish is gone, what to drink?

Since Beamish is no longer available in the USA, I am looking for suggestions on similar or an even better stout to try. I've been looking for a couple years now, and I know about Guiness, Murphys, and all the bigger names. Looking for something I haven't tried that could possibly attempt to fill the empty spot the loss of Beamish has caused. Left Handed Milk Stout is not bad, don't like Turbo Dog. I did find a Milk Stout from a brewery in North Carolina I loved, called Duck Rabbit brewery, I believe. The problem with this is that I live in Chicago, and it is not shipped to this area. I think only the Carolina's and Tennesee.

Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Well like you said, Duck Rabbit is excellent. It's available in PA, not that that helps you.

There is Lancaster Milk Stout, but I'm not a huge fan.

Not a stout, but Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald Porter is awesome, and should be available in Chicago. It has more body that most of the stouts you mentioned (including Beamish). Most American stouts are of the "imperial" variety I think; i.e. lots of alcohol as opposed to a Beamish/Guiness which is maybe 4%, so maybe you can look into porters instead.

Thanks, they do have the Fitzgerald here and I've had it and like it. Like you said, most of the stouts I find are higher in alcohol and maybe a little to bitter for what I like. Fitzgerald is a good beer, I found to have a couple, but after that it becomes too much. I enjoy a creamier stout.

I really appreciate the input. Thanks much.

Go to binnys and just start trying different beers.

    Bells porter is good.

Samual smith oatmeal stout and taddy porter are both favs.

But seriosly, i can spend half an hour looking at all the choices

Dark beers are my favorite, too, but I've always been pretty satisfied with Guinness. I absolutely LOVE the Edmond Fitzgerald though, it kicks ass. The Sam Smith is good too, as is Wells if you have that near you. I'm not personally crazy about the duck rabbit.

    Sure! 8-)

Anchor Porter is a good one too. Probably a little lighter than Edmond Fitz.

Thanks for all the ideas. I know what you mean about spending a lot of time in Binnys pondering over all the choices. It usually costs me a pretty penny when I leave also.

Thanks everyone, for a few new ones to try.
