I would love to see Dave A sit in on a few songs during a future show. It been like fourteen years, surely Ed and Dave can kiss and make up even if it's only for one night. To see Dave sit in would be an awesome gift for Pearl Jam fans. Which brings me to a little more future dwelling. When PJ is inducted in the HOF, I wonder if all the "one time" Pearl Jam drummers will attend. To see them all on stage at one time would be the ultimate closure for us die hards. Your comments??

my favorite PJ drummer is Jack Irons (With Matt being very close), but on that HOF day I guess we'll see Matt, and maybe half of the audience will be ex-PJ drummers.

Dave A would be so insane, his style is just ace.
  • I used to be a huge fan of Dave's but lately I've noticed that he just isn't that great of a drummer, better than average, but not great. He just seems to be a one trick pony.

maybe there's a reason he hasn't done much since Pearl Jam?

  • Would Dave have to buy his own ticket to get into the show?

I'd think the same thing about Matt Cameron if it weren't for Soundgarden
    Stone Gossard...riffmeister extraordinaire!

So you haven't heard Harrybu McCage i guess? Or actually listened to matt's drumming properly on tunes like slight of hand, nothing as it seems, You Are, love boat captain, all or none, cant keep, unemployable etc. etc.

Matt utilises all the skill he used with Soundgarden, he just does it far more subtly and with less IN YOUR FACE tom fills. His drumming has matured and smoothed, like a fine vintage wine.

Dave A was great when he was about, so was Jack Irons. I cant choose who was 'Best' for PJ, but Matt is far more than a one trick pony!

There's also Wellwater Conspiracy and Hater, plus the other albums he's drummed on as a studio musician.

True! I must confess I haven't heard either of those bands, but I'm just presuming that Harrbu Mccage is probably the best example to prove he is far from a one trick pony

Not 110& sure on this but seems logical for the HOF induction. Matt will perform with pearl jam and go up on stage for the induction. I would think that the other drummers will recieve a trophy too for their contribution to the bands work they were a part of. We will only see Matt on stage playing and during the induction speech.
    Pure speculation on my part.

I say this because they have had a few drummers. Now when TP and the Heartbreakers were inducted Both Ron Blair and Howie Epstein were present to perform. So that is why I say pure speculation on my above post. Ron Played on a song and Howie on another. Don't the bands usually play 2- 3 songs a piece?

I'd like a special show with ALL four drummers. :D
Matt can do the first set. Then Dave Abruzzese on the second set.
Jack can start the first encore. and Dave Krusen can closeout the show.

    ;)

don't forget about matt chamberlain...he was their 2nd drummer...and if you want to get technical, their drum tech recorded the drums to satan's bed, so he's no. 6...

Clearly you have not seen this video:

TBH, there is no "one" video to show his amazing skill from a song. You just have to listen to the boots and see how he never plays the same way twice. He is a total improvisational drummer. He NEVER sticks with the same beats and fills for any particular song, and that to me, is a real drummer.

ohyeah, forgot Chamberlain was in the "Alive" video.
and I think Abruzzese joined during the "Even Flow" taping.

anybody know which shows each of these videos came from?

Alive video - August 3, 1991 at RKCNDY in Seattle
Even Flow video - January 17, 1992 at the Moore Theatre in Seattle

Dave A's first show was August 23, 1991 at the Mural Amphitheater in Seattle.

What I should have said was that I wouldn't think he was so great, not that he's a one trick pony. I'm just not quite as impressed with his work in Pearl Jam, not that he's set back, however.

I suppose it's not entirely him though. I think Soundgarden's music allowed for more creative drumming than most stuff from Pearl Jam.

I agree, but that might be just as much Pearl Jam's fault as Matt's. They had to deal with 2nd rate( compared to Matt) drumming for the 1st 3 albums of their career, couple that with the fact that Jack left right after their creative peak. I think Binaural, RA and Pearl Jam would have sounded WAYYYYYY different if Jack stayed mostly because the band was developing in a certain way and his departure severed that path forever.

Once Matt joined the band the entire catalog took on a whole new perspective and it can be heard in the live music. Finally PJ found a drummer whose skill and talent was parallel with the rest of the band.

Now the songwriting, geez. I LOVE Pearl Jam but their last 3 albums haven;t been as good as the 1st 5. I don;t think that they have realized the best way to write with Matt yet. He might not even know what the solution is. But it is changing to reflect his supreme skill, passion and genius.

Hopefully we will soon start hearing Pearl Jam continue to grow, but honestly I think that the direction they have been moving in is kind of disappointing, only because they are not achieving the potential that they have.
