Inappropriate, this scumbag does not deserve a film about him.

Depending upon how this film portrays OBL..and from the previous title...I would think that most here would be happy with it...
I DO think we need a film..along the lines of the other bad guys in history films. Or at the very least a well thought out, well presented and interesting documentary..one that the kids will actually watch, and that will stick with us as the years go on.
And ONE reason is this....
I was talking with my step-grandson the other day while the OBL news was all over the airwaves. He is 11 years old and finishing up the 5th grade. He has NO IDEA (or at least he didn't before we talked) who OBL is/was...NO IDEA what 9/11 stands for. We were watching people gather at the site of the TT, other people cheering and chanting USA in the streets. He has no idea why.
I threw out some words and phrases, you know the standards... 911, Al Qaeda, Afghanistan, NYC bombing, planes into the Twin Towers, into the pentagon, hijacked and crashed in PA, Homeland Security, references to the TSA and WHY security is the way it is, the FDNYC....among other things..and asked him what those phrases meant to him...what did I get back..Blank Stares. He is truly clueless.
I asked him if they talked about any of this in school and he shook his head. He was truly bewildered by the entire thing. THAT, imho, is inexcusable. They don't have to show pictures (and prob shouldn't) or be overly graphic, or use scare tactics..but preteen kids are able to grasp the gist of the whole thing. And they NEED to know about the world around them...the good and the bad. Obviously I can't speak to all schools regarding this, but ours is supposed to be a pretty good district..one of the reasons my kids moved here was to put the grandkids into a good school system....the others are only toddlers, so I have nothing to compare this to. I admit a good part of this falls into the hands of my daughter and her husband, yes, but schools should be teaching current civic and world lessons, no? (I mean, I have the younger boys with me all day every day (ages 2, 4 and 4), and while i surely do not scare them with it, or go into to overtime with details..when they see a photo or news piece about any of the things currently happening in the world, they recognize it...and they ask questions, and they get answers (age appropriate of course). I don't spend a whole lot of time w the 11 yo and had no idea that he was so clueless. QUESTION....are your kids/grandkids in the same boat? I mean with school..not from you).
Anyway..so that's one reason why I think we DO need a film....a well put together film...documentary style..or at least true to history as its being made (or as we know it).
Our young people NEED to know. This cannot go by the wayside. It can not disappear with the passage of time.
It is not over.

I was working in the board office of a very respected school district in NJ on 911 and it was (and rightly so) totally covered up at the time, you know, while teachers stole a moment into the library to watch the news coverage, the library shades were drawn. it was kept very hushed that day..and i understand that. it would have caused a huge panic. some of the children had parents who worked at the twin towers, and so they were right to keep it under wraps in the beginning. and who knew what it would develop into right? afterwards, though, and maybe it was because so many of the children and families were directly impacted, but it was discussed openly and freely, and the history behind the conflicts was also discussed. but that was at the time. i wonder if its in any sort of curriculum in the history or civics classesnow? i would be interested to know. because here, unless my grandson is really really really not paying attention (??), it isn't happening.

....would you prefer they get censored?
I would prefer no story about Osama. Period.
The more concerned citizens like yourself complain about it, the more publicity it gets....so unless your plan is to drum up enough support to have them censored, you're doing them a favour. I hadn't heard about it until this thread, so thanks
If the last week's media frenzy is any indication, there is def an appetite for info about the guy. I think the biggest curiosity will be where the story starts...and I will probably go see it to find out. Its just a movie man, geez...
Yes, I understand keeping it under wraps at the actual time, no doubt. And I would also be interested to know if it is in the curriculum now; I would think it would be very important in any recent US history context--particularly for somewhat older students, like middle or high school. But, also, like your grandson's age..there must be something that addresses it to a certain degree, I would think (but I'm not a teacher, so I don't know anything about that sort of thing). Aside from the 9/11 subject, what I mentioned about Columbine--it wasn't even discussed in any social class he had a few years later in high school.. I was just flabbergasted about that. Not to mention, apparently, he didn't watch the news, nor was it discussed in his household. I don't know why that shocked me so much, but it did. Equally shocking is if the subject of Osama/recent terrorism is not discussed in schools/included in curriculum (US history) 10 years later.
Osama bin Laden is (was) one of the most important people of our time... maybe the MOST important. Of course there is going to be film, books, etc made about his life and death.
Is the reason you're against this because profit is being made off this story? If so, where is the line drawn? Can we now only see comedies and do you propose we outlaw all tragedies??? :?
i was thinking mel gibson
Stop being so sensitive. He's dead.
i will most definitely watch it. and if the message is right and the truth (so far as we understand it...like it or not) is there, and its not just some overblown propaganda film..i will also encourage my children and grandchildren to watch it ...and discuss it. it absolutely has to be done...i just hope its done right.
i know that YOU know that...

haha it will be like Braveheart, there will no doubt be a scene where he gives a pep talk speech to fire up the terrorists.
And then there is the merch, the figurines!
Ridiculous.
Did you even read the above article?
The movie will be about a bunch of U.S soldiers sent to kill Bin Laden. I'm sure the movie will provide Americans with plenty of opportunities to wave their flags and denigrate all Arabs.
I am not American!!!
yeah, well the Aussies had like the 3rd most troops in Afghanistan... slightly more than Poland I think... with a total of SEVEN.
Our government is the potent, the omnipresent teacher. For good or for ill, it teaches the whole people by its example. Crime is contagious. If the government becomes a law-breaker, it breeds contempt for law; it invites every man to become a law unto himself; it invites anarchy. - Louis Brandeis
