It's never too early to begin discussing the most exciting sport on the planet. I noticed that ESPN's College Football Live crew has already picked their preseason Top 25 poll. Oklahoma is #1 and Alabama is #2. Then, last night (May 5th) I saw the CSS Talkin' Football guys (Charter-Comcast Sports South for those who aren't familiar with or don't get CSS) roll out their Top 25. Their Top 5 was Oklahoma, Alabama, LSU, Oregon, and Florida State. (Of course the DOJ this week said that they're about to investigate the BCS system, which in my opinion is something the federal government should keep its nose out of.)

Regardless of the DOJ or any other foolishness, four months from now, we'll be kicking it off!!!

Can't wait, since we may not have football on Sundays. Excited to see what Michigan does now that RichRod is finally gone. And curious about Maryland.

Not sure about the Fed Gov and the BCS. But a playoff needs to happen at some point.

I would be in favor of one additional game, but not a full-fledged playoff system because if that were to happen, the bowls would be destroyed and bowl games are part of what make college football so special and unique. (True, a lot of 6-6 teams make it to bowl games and I do feel that there are too many bowl games.)

Michigan should be vastly improved. Life after the Big Turtle at Maryland will be interesting. Florida State looks like they're about to be back in the thick of things on the national scene (Miami probably not far behind), so the ACC might start to resemble what the conference looked like around ten years ago with the old power teams back on top.

The SEC West is going to be brutal with Bama, LSU, Arkansas, and an improved Mississippi State team. Auburn is losing all of their best players (with the exception of Michael Dyer), so they are in for a rough season. I like UGA in the East, followed by South Carolina. Florida is a year away, but Muschamp will field a good team this fall.

Watch that Oklahoma/Florida State game in Tallahassee. If FSU wins that one, look out. Oregon/LSU (will be played at Jerry World) is another big game in the early going. Can Oregon get physical enough to beat an SEC team? Alabama at Penn State could be exciting in week two. Georgia and Boise State in the Chick-fil-A kickoff game is also interesting.

Michigan is still going to suck :P they don't have very good talent. of course, that could all change in a couple of years as the new staff cleans up the pile of poo rich rod left behind. i'm going to miss that guy.

    Should be a fun season.

I like the bowls too, but it seems so many of them lose money and end up costing the schools money that something needs to be done. They could find a way to make it work.

Not sure it would destroy the bowl system. The bowls could still be used for a playoff.

thats what I think- use the big bowls in a playoff format with the top 8-12 teams. Leave the smaller bowls in place for those that don't qualify. And eliminate some bowls too. No more 6-6 and you get an invite.

correct. they could still keep the hundreds of meaningless bowl games. they'd be the NIT of college football.

tough watching a bowl game with stadiums that are 1/4 full though. that looks awful on tv.
