So Fixer, you're going to take this thread and try to turn it around to make it look like those who need assistance are bad guys, huh? Really? Address the topic. The rich should pay more taxes because they can.
he books most of his income from capital gains...if he wanted to no one would stop him from paying more...but it is easy to say raise income tax levels when all your income comes from capital gains...Don't hear raise capital gains taxes higher...wonder why that is?
That's not the point. The point is that the system isn't fair and the way it's represented is inaccurate.

some of them...yes.
I completely disagree with the premise of penalizing the successful by making them pay more because 'they can.' what's the point of earning more money if it's only going to be taken away from you?
this argument could go on forever. those who don't make a lot of money will always want and expect the rich to pay for other people's problems. we're getting nowhere.
all I said was I want to keep as much of my earnings as possible. and those on social handout programs should be tested to make sure they are doing something to better their situation...not just enjoy a free ride at the expense of those working hard and abiding by the rules.
I am a registered independent, and because of this tax nonsense I will most likely be forced to vote GOP (again) in the next election regardless of who the candidate is. call me whatever you want, but I want to keep as much of the money I earn as possible

It's not penalizing. It was a way of life up til Reagan changed things.
Your focus on those who need assistance to get by rather than taking a look at yourself and the greed you output here by wanting as much as possible only for yourself speaks volumes.

It's not greed to sit on your couch all day not looking for a job and asking for someone else's money? Street goes 2 ways. At least one of them earned it.
Sorry. The world doesn't work the way you tell it to.

call it what you want. I go to work every day to make money for my familiy, not to help others. If I want to help someone I will donate to a charity or do volunteer work. I should have the option to do whatever I want with my money (you know, since I earned it)

And you still want to focus on the less fortunate.

I have a feeling you probably wouldn't ever give money to charity. Way to go, big boy.

Yes. Why wouldn't a prudent person look at their necessary expenses first?
Sorry. The world doesn't work the way you tell it to.
he should then tell people how he avoids paying income taxes shouldn't he? It is always easy to talk about someone else's money...and Buffett is no different... if income taxes were raised he would still be paying roughly the same because capital gains isn't going anywhere...clinton knew enough to lower it, bush knew enough to lower it further...it is double taxation...why do we continually need to give them more?
so shouldn't he really be saying that capital gains taxes should be increased? do you believe you should punish people for actively punishing people for investing their money?
Did you watch the videos? He specifically said he doesn't do anything to actively avoid paying taxes. I can't speak for his opinion on income vs. capital gains taxes. I don't believe we should give people a break just for being rich & investing their money while "punishing" the other people who can't afford to invest.

so you shouldn't keep bringing up the idea that buffett put out there if you don't know why his tax rate is effectively lower...it is misleading...
How is a lower capital gains tax punishing those who cannot afford to invest...there are plenty of penny stocks out there to invest in...maybe instead of cable tv and a new computer people should look to make that money work for them...I don't know everything, but I do know that if you continually spend your money you will never have any no matter what the tax rate is...and heaven forbid someone does invest that money they should be rewarded by only paying a small double tax on their money.
I am not rich by any stretch of the imagination and I have thousands of shares in a company because I know when it finally goes public I will be compensated handsomely...it is a risk especially for someone with VERY limited income but from that risk a business has grown and people employed...so when I sell my investment to others looking to invest i will make a tidy sum which will be taxed at a lower rate because capital gains are usually made with money that has already been taxed once. So these rich people who come out and say we should be taxed more are actually telling lies by omitting the fact they are taking income from other sources rather the traditional pay check route...that is the problem. It creates a false sense of class warfare when everyone...rich and poor should be more pissed about the fact the dollar in their pocket is worth less today than it was a month ago...that is the tax of inflation and it effects the poor far more than anything the government does in regards to taxes and entitlement programs.

all I'm saying is that some people manipulate those systems and take advantage of said programs. as a taxpayer I have a problem with that. there should be guidelines in place to assure that those benefitting from these programs are deserving of the assistance they receive.
any unemployed crackhead that gets knocked up expects govt assistance. that ain't right. the rich shouldn't have to fund that type of bullshit
I agree...I don't like it either...but just because some abuse the system doesn't mean all you utilize the system are lazy crackheads...
which is why I brought up drug/alcohol testing 5 posts ago :?
I knew you'd come around and see the light
are you smoking crack because you're not making sense...1st you whine about paying taxes...I say fine, let's get rid of welfare...then you complain of entitlements....I say fine, get rid of them because the we'll suddenly be living in utopia, then you change your tune and complain of cracked welfare stealers, I agree that fraud may be an issue...suddenly I see some sort of light... :?

Obviously you know more about investment than I do. (Geez... I can't know EVERYTHING! ) But Buffett knows more about it than you do, so I'm gonna trust his judgment over yours - especially considering that your perspective is based on your own ability to profit, but he doesn't stand to benefit from his position.

Charitable donations actually help me on my taxes every year. Way to strengthen your stance by passing judgement
Best of luck with your welfare or unemployment check this week. Either way, you're welcome.
