How was your life like when (any PJ album) came out?

I posted another thread about Avocado and it made me think about the time when it came out. I was in my third year of college and I was really into Pearl Jam. They had come to Chile the year before (2005) and I attended the two shows they had in my country, so you must imagine I was pretty excited about listening to a new PJ record.

I had a long distance relationship with a girl living in Spain at that time, and when I first listened to Avocado I could relate to many of the songs, especially Parachutes, which now I listen to less and less since my relationship with the girl ended a couple of years ago.

The album came out in May, am I right? Here in Chile we are in winter during that month, so and remember travelling to my hometown listening the songs over and over while it was raining outside (I also remember listening to RHCP's Stadium Arcadium). I used to play Comatose and WWS with a couple of friends who I've lost touch with. It was a fun cold time.

I'd like to know how your life was when your favorite album came out (or just any other).

Peace.
November 22nd, 2005.

  • The No Code release was the BEST. End of August 1996, summer vacation after graduation from highschool. There were three of us who were super-fans at the time. We went to a midnight release. We all bought a copy, jumped into my friend's horribly beaten up car and drove around with the windows down and the music up, smoking cigarettes, comparing each other's polaroids, giddy and punching each other over the direction the band was twisting itself. So much amazing music on that album.

My life always is in turmoil around album releases all except Yield, oh wait that lead into bad things too. PJ releases i think are there for me to get through rough stuff. It has always been that way.
  • Ten came out, and I embraced who I was.
Before that I was absent, and desperate.

well... let's just say that somehow, I like to say the band is psychic, but somehow EVERY single album has managed to relate to what I was going through in the year it came out. Seriously, this has NEVER failed, all the way up to Backspacer. I also seem to have learned something from each and every album, which I can NOT say about any other band to date.. It's part of what makes PJ so special to me.. kinda like they wrote me a soundtrack, without even realizing they'd even done so. I know that sounds cliche, but in all actuality it really worked out that way for me.

What's so great, is that not only did each album have its special meaning for me when it came out. But, now that I am older, I can go back to older songs that I can relate to modern issues and have them help me too!

Release helped me a bunch 5 or 6 years ago...15 years after it came out.
