with the exception of wilco the album, everything they've released is gold.

and people always say PJ plays 3 hours shows, when that is only true of a handful of shows in the last 10 years, while wilco plays 3 hour shows every night, with no set break.

wilco is the real deal, my friend. no hype.

Wilco does not play 3 hour shows w/ no breaks.

I've seen them once or twice a year since 2005 and they've never done that, plus they have at least one encore break.

They ARE the real deal, but let's not exaggerate. Their live show probably rings in at 2 hr 15 min (or thereabouts).

I agree that this is where it's at, but by no means is this the norm. Those "evening with" shows were just a small tour and the idea that they play 3 hours EVERY night is preposterous for whoever said it because that was the first time they had ever done such a thing.

But yeah, they're the best live band on the planet.

I'm stoked for the new album. When I saw them at Coney Island in a baseball stadium (I forget what it's called) two summers ago the played for around two and a half hours I think, and then later offered that show as a free download as an impetus to make a donation to charity. I like Wilco (the album) but I don't love it. I do, however, love "Bull Black Nova"

I tried a few albums from them, but Wilco(The Album) is what started gettin me into them. It seems a little like poppy Wilco compared to their other stuff, in a way. I started diggin Yankee Hotel Foxtrot after I'd absorbed that one. Haven't gotten around to much else. Would really like to see them.

Definitely get "Being There." It's a double album with so many great songs. Honestly, at first I didn't like Yankee Hotel Foxtrot at all (although now I love it.)

For a new fan, I would go with something a little more accessible in "Being There." (And I genuinely think it's their best album.)

I know this is a lame answer, but each album offers something different and won't necessarily represent the entire body of work because they have changed so much over the years.

If you want to hear the "alt  country" Wilco first, check out "Being There". (AM is good, but BT is leaps and bounds better.)

If you want to hear how Wilco sounds with Pet Sounds-like production and more catchy songs first, check out "Summerteeth".

If you want an album that you will probably have to listen to 10 times before you "get" that it's one of the best albums of the last decade first, go with "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot".

I STRONGLY recommend one of these over the others for a first-timer. To be honest, the live album (Kicking Television) would really be the best way to go since that is where they truly shine.

Wilco should play the pj fest..i think there is history between nels cline and ed..i believe they played a song on a benifit album..Actually im willing to bank they do play the fest if at alpine. wilco has not played alpine to my knowledge and they cant sell it out so this is a perfect opportunity.

Looking forward to get well soon everybody..Tweedy is a very talented songwriter in my mind and the band really knows how to play their instruments and is very versatile..and they are great live. They still mostly play theaters too which is a treat.

Yeah they played together on "All Along the Watchtower" from the I'm Not There soundtrack and I think Nels is good friends with Mike Watt as well.

If Wilco and Pearl Jam ever shared a stage it will truly be the pinnacle of live music.

Maybe I'm going against the grain here a bit, but I think Summerteeth would be the best place to start. Songs like Can't Stand It, Shot in the Arm, Always in Love, Nothingsevergonnastandinmyway and ELT can sink in right away. Oh, and it has My Darling on it which is probably the best parent song I've ever heard.

Agreed. If they wanted to, YHF could have been an amazing double album or did a Kid A/Amnesiac type of release and been amazing.

Saw them play live last night. Great set, but if I'm not mistaken they didn't play one song from Wilco the album. And no new stuff. But Jeff seemed to be in great spirits and they had two encores. Wilco never disappoints. Very much looking forward to the new album.

Edit they actually played two songs from Wilco (the album).

But, it was a small tour and not their normal M.O.

The show last Sunday was great. Looking quite forward to the new record later this year.
