NORTHLAKE, Ill.— Elmer Lynn Hauldren, better known to millions as the 'Empire Carpet man', has died at the age of 89.

Hauldren was a decorated World War II veteran who began appearing in Empire television ads in the 1970's.

He was the voice of the famous Empire character and mascot, and worked with the company until his passing.

He helped signature the "800-588-2300 Empire" jingle, making it one of the nation's most popular jingles.
