Metallica will team up with Rick Rubin again when the time comes to record their next album, bassist Robert Trujillo has said.
Rubin, who was at the helm for the band's last album, 'Death Magnetic,' will reacquaint himself with the metal legends who, according to Trujillo, see the producer as having a "Zen guru spirit."
Speaking to 93.7 KCLB Rocks! Radio (via Contactmusic), the bassist explained, "Yeah, I love working with Rick. Rick, to me, he's sort of a Zen guru spirit that Metallica needs right now. Not to say that we need it, because we're getting along incredibly well, we're really excited to write some new music. There's no shortage of riffage in Metallica world right now. And I think it's only gonna get better."
Before turning their attentions to the studio, Metallica will be jetting around the globe for some special shows. Dubbed 'The Big Four,' the band will be joined by Slayer, Anthrax and Megadeth on the trek that will see them play in Europe, Latin America and Southern Asia -- the first date took place in Indio, California at the weekend.
The final destination is India which will mark the band's first visit to the country, a prospect Trujillo is clearly excited by. He said, "We are going to play India in October. That should be interesting, playing a place we never thought in our wildest dreams we'd go to play."
He concluded, "It's an honour for all of us that we get to be a metal band and share our music with fans in India. We love travelling and experiencing other cultures."

I really like Death Magnetic as well. It was their first album since the Black album that I really like the whole thing.
They do still put on a hell of a show though. I saw them twice on the Death Magnetic tour and both were fantastic shows. I won tickets from the radio to see them on the St. Anger tour and I thought it was going to suck but they only played like 2 or 3 songs from that album, the rest of the show kicked ass. I've never walked away from a Metallica show disappointed.

But yeah...hope they do continue to work with Rick....I love Death Magnetic....it was long overdue
They say every sin is deadly but I believe they may be wrong...I'm guilty of all seven and I don't feel too bad at all
Unfortunate for you cause Death Magnetic is great and the live show is still as good as ever.

I think they should cut out the preplanning of the albums and just go in and jam. Too much thought on the loose ideas and not enough when it comes time to construct a song. There's alot of cool parts on DM, but they're just strung together haphazardly.
Rubin's a fine producer, but prolly too nonchalant for what Metallica really needs.
Typical

Did I hurt your feelings b/c I don't like what Metallica has to offer these days?
The day my feeling are hurt by someone's opinions of a band is a day that will never come (get it?). But you have to realize that you come off like an music elitist in almost every one of your posts. You must be aware that you and FinsburyParkCarrots are the most smug music elitists around here right? And while you or anyone is entitled to hate Death Magnetic (heck, I only like a few songs on it myself), it's so typical of you to post that it "sucks pretty hard" and then begin rambling on about how they should record and produce their next record.

Do I? I tend to think I'm anything but a musical elitist. Yeah, I have an opinion on alot of music and I speak my mind when I think it sucks or is awesome, but isn't that what a message board is for? I'm not trolling trying to get people worked up. I'm not trying to convince people. I like to listen to music. I like to play music. And I like to talk about music.
I'm just trying to point out that Metallica trying to make an album that sounds like MoP, like they claimed they were wanting to, seems like a bad route to go and planning and album like that can make it sound kinda forced. When I listen to it, I can hear that much. If other people feel different that's fine with me.
Okay fair enough. But I still think it's a good record even if it is trying to be a modern day Master Of Puppets. I'd rather they force that then let their creative juices dip to the depths of St. Anger again.

Yeah you're probably right. Well, actually, I'm sure you're right. Just one of those things for me. Just can't get back in to them. Maybe I'll try to pick up Death Magnetic sometime...
Just download it. You'll be able to try the album and stick it to Lars at the same time.
